Weird casting, none of them make sense except Jack Black.

Not a single human in existence looks like the characters in Borderlands. This whole thing is silly, Borderlands isn't a masterpiece of story and character development
I'll watch it, but as a borderlands fan I'm expecting trash
I have been equally pessimistic and excited about this dumpster fire from the earliest rumors. I think this movie will be bad, and won't be any less fun for it. as long as they answer one question best asked by mister torgue flexington: explosions?
oh if they have someone playing Torgue I'll watch it with mouth agape. I don't know who could pull it off though.
Who would they even get to play Torgue? Like honestly? Because from the main casting choices, it would probably be someone like Kyle Gass or Michael Cera.
Same. I can't imagine it being anything other than off-brand Mad Max, though
It really looks like they wanted this made in the vein of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I guess if you start with Borderlands and try to come up with an existing movie property that's in the same ballpark, that kinda seems like a reasonable target?
Problem is, none of the actors look like they are having fun. I think this is going to land somewhere between the Suicide Squads, and not closer to the one you'd want it to.
The entire cast seems off. And how is cage the elephant not the theme still?
Not nearly guardians of the galaxy enough for them
The lack of overly vulgar dialogue in the trailer really solidified my lack of expectations. Not that I really need that level of vulgarity to enjoy a movie but I mean, is it really borderland without it?
FFS this looks like the worst casting job ever. Each actor is good but completely wrong for the role with the exception, maybe, of Jack Black. This looks like the studio is fishing for a tax write off by making a bomb.
Even Jack black is a weird choice. It's frickin Claptrap, the one role where you could just take the voice actor from the game and not fuck up the casting. Whole thing looks like shit. Hard pass. Don't need a family road trip Borderlands movie.
There are multiple voice actors and Gearbox allegedly fucked over the first.
Ashly Burch could've easily reprised her role as Tiny Tina as well. We know she can act well enough from her role in Mythic Quest.
So, this is what a 2 year delay worth of studio interference, poor audience testing, and aimlessly hopeful reshoots gets us. The only thing surprising is that it's not a WB product about to be shelved.
This is what happens when someone who has never played Borderlands derives their script from watching teen streamers playing the game. Expectedly awful.
Is Borderlands the godfather now? Who cares? Borderlands story is trash, it's characters are one dimensional. This is like when people complained that they'd mess up twisted metal, as if we were speaking about an adaptation of the old man and the sea. It's Borderlands, and if the movie is a solid 7, it's as good as the game.
I don't think anyone here is saying the movie will be bad for not getting the Borderlands story right. I think they're saying it looks bad because it looks like a passionless by the numbers cash grab banking on nerd pandering and brand recognition. Especially because this was the type of game that never needed to be made into a movie. I mean, the trailer has Kevin Hart yelling stuff and ends with a diarrhea joke. Nuff said.
Borderlands story is not trash and its characters are not one dimensional. They are caricature in nature and can seem shallow at first glance. The story takes it queues from tales of old while also being extremely puerile and silly but at times itβs also heartfelt and charming (Tiny Tinaβs Adventure). What we see here in the trailer is, again, gaming translated to the screen by people who clearly havenβt played the games themselves.
Cate Blanchett for Lilith, but no lines spoken to showcase her personality. Tina except she's a Zoomer girl boss that occasionally lapses into the actual Tina in the most superficial ways, Roland but comedy, and the psycho as a main character when you have gunzerker and commando.
This just feels like another quick cash in on an IP that they believed they could turn into pulp action content.
It stinks!
I absolutely love the game. I'm going to watch this movie with very low expectations and I think I'll be happy.
Couldn't have picked a worse game to try and make a movie out of. From the looks of it, they aren't trying very hard either.
Is it bad that I'm scared/worried to watch the trailer based on the comments I'm this thread alone?
As a fan of the games, and having watched the trailer: no.
I watched it. I wish I hadn't. But now I definitely know I'm not going to watch this until it hits a streaming service that I'm subbed to. Maybe.
I mean it doesn't look like citizen kane but it also doesn't look that bad? A lot of people in the comments here seem to think that Borderlands has some Baldur's Gate level story to explore when it really is just a bunch of assholes doing assholish things for video game reasons. I say this as a massive bl2 fan that has always been willing to point out and accept every shortcoming that every game has had so far.
Yeah that's always my biggest issue when people complain about these movies, Borderlands isn't a masterpiece of story, it's not hard to make an action movie based on that world.
I mean, even as someone who isn't really a fan of Borderlands, this feels immediately different in tone, and the actors all look cheap and out of place. The aethetic (esspecially in contrast to the games) kind-of reminds me of old 80s/90s direct to VHS movies where it was made by a small studio trying to make something completely out of scope, and of the writing shown, it seems slower, shallower (even by Borderlands's low standards) and more sanitized. Borderlands doesn't set a high bar, but this seems like it'll struggle to meet even that.
Looks like it'll be a fun popcorn movie. Not expecting it to be faithful to the source material.
Just counting my lucky stars they didn't cast The Rock as Kreig.
I'm not even all that familiar with the games, but the casting seems really off.
I really hope I am proved wrong, but this looks like another Video Game to Movie flop.
I don't understand anyone who would choose to watch this instead of playing borderlands, given they're a fan of the game. Who is this for?
I'm so tired of Jack Black.
