I still find it crazy that they even bother with this nonsense nowadays. Piracy used to absolutely rampant. Everyone was doing it and there wasn’t any shame in it at all. I’ve haven’t heard of anyone pirating a game IRL in years apart from old games that can’t be purchased anymore.
If there is a AAAA title I need to play, I'll pirate it, because fuck investors coming to this space and ruining it for everyone. However, this remains hypothetical since one has never come along that I'd rather play than the games I buy from actual human beings.
I do wonder what the numbers are as far as piracy goes. I feel like it has to be a really low number. Honestly the biggest thing that I feel helps against piracy is continual and useful updates. Typically scene releases get an initial update near the release and thats it. Then if you pirate the game you are missing out on years of performance increases, bug fixes, and more
Updating pirated games has been possible for years, also unlocking DLC and pre-release content.
The only thing that can't be done is playing in official servers (for obvious reasons).
