If he's the one popping out calves then she made the right choice.

[–] dmention7@lemm.ee 42 points 7 months ago (8 children)

Came into the comments to read about petting baby cows. Left feeling icky. ☹️

Maybe its just cause I'm high, but baby cows are frickin adorable, and now I'm thinking about finding a rancher friend.

Only after they've been washed off. Or dry cleaned. Or whatever, IDK, I'm from Chicago.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 18 points 7 months ago

We dry clean them. Otherwise they shrink.

[–] Zoboomafoo@slrpnk.net 8 points 7 months ago

IDK, I'm from Chicago

So you're more familiar with the end stage of the process.

There's a dairy farm somewhat close to me that let's you pet the cows and watch them get milked. It's pretty cool.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I’d prefer it if the cows petted me and watched me get milked

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

There's conventions for that, you just need to bring your own costume.

I should have heeded your warning. I swear man, the people on this website can be some of the least fun people on the internet on a pretty regular basis.

And when he kills them for profit, you can play with their organs, making puppets out of Every. Single. One.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 36 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That’s not profitable.

Sounds like some weird fantasy of yours.

[–] DerisionConsulting@lemmy.ca 19 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Cattle farming isn't profitable?

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 39 points 7 months ago (1 children)

IDK what cattle mutilation shit you’re into.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Just what do you think happens to these animals?

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Can confirm, worked in a cow organ puppet factory.

Hobbies aren't supposed to be profitable

That is the point

Maybe you being busy with birthing 15 calves in the last 48 hours is the reason why dating a rancher is a hassle?

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 20 points 7 months ago

If you can't handle a partner being largely busy for brief periods, that's a you problem.

Someone that doesn't know the mamma has her head down and is contemplating murdering their dumbass.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 20 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Friendly reminder that cows are one of the five most lethal mammals (mostly due to there being LOTs of cows, but meh)

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 21 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Not in terms off K:D ratio

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Sure, when you've got the societal and material advantage. Go 1v1 a cow out in a field and you might change your mind. Those things are up to 2,000 pounds of brick shithouse. You might not kill one if you hit it with your car.

Psychopaths who don't care that the calves are immediately being separated from their mothers for slaughter and for higher milk production.

Trauma all around.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Fake and not gay enough. Separating calves from their moms reduces, not increases, milk production.

It has even been proven that cows have their clique and just their company affects how much they produce.

The only women who appreciate being confronted with the consequences of their animal consumption are vegans, and vegans hate ranchers.

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Have you ever met a woman IRL?

I just traumatized 15 mothers why won't she date me is a hell of a take

[–] Shampiss@sh.itjust.works 23 points 7 months ago (4 children)

His cows gave birth. What do you mean traumatized?

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The person you’re responding to is an aggressive vegan reactionary.

They abuse their cat or smth I can’t keep up with the vegan drama these days

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

vegan reactionary

Committing the unconscionable crime of knowing where steak comes from.

They abuse their cat

Willing to bet that cat lives 6x longer than those calves.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 12 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No they committed the social faux pa of being a gigantic douche bag.

Being a dick to people doesn’t change them.

[–] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 10 points 7 months ago (5 children)

Pretty please don't separate the newborn from it's mom right after birth only to kill it later and confine the mom in a tiny space and forcibly milk her dry.

To be fair, birth is pretty traumatizing, but this guy didn't cause it!

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Maybe you should look into a bit of what ranchers actually do...

Well this post is 5 years old, and there aren't newer posts since 2021 since poster passed away, so I dont know for sure they are abusing animals, but the idea is that calves are separated from their mothers within the first few days usually. Its a traumatic experience for the baby and the mother.

The cow was forcibly impregnated which is pretty rough but thats a different issue.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

She probably dumped him for a reason. I doubt the calves are going to make up for his misogyny and liberal use of the hard r.

Yea I'm definitely being a bit of a dick. I'm trying to make a joke but I'll be the first to admit it didn't come off as very funny.

[–] cactus_head@programming.dev 6 points 7 months ago

Good on you for taking the L. I would have been crushed if it was me
