I wish it wasn't so tragic, so I could laugh at people who couldn't vote for Harris because Biden didn't single-handedly stop the genocide.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 57 points 4 months ago (5 children)

The great majority of those people aren't on here talking about it anymore.

[–] SuperIce@lemmy.world 62 points 4 months ago (7 children)

Well, the Russian trolls aren't needed anymore now that Trump won.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Doesn't seem they are entirely gone.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 24 points 4 months ago

There's always some real humans duped by the bots and at this point they have 2 choices: accept they were duped or go all in.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 months ago

We are just left with the useful idiots that unfortunately bought into it.

No, your admin and mods banned those accounts in the lead up to the election under the reason "troll," because you people (meant as offensively as reasonable) can't take opposing view points or the guilt of explicitly supporting genocide.

But happily downvoting. I hope all the terrorist simps here are happy for going after Harris, because this is the result they consequently wanted.

I didn't expect Biden to stop the genocide.

I expected him to try.

[–] bungalowtill@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 4 months ago

Today they were kinda proved right, though. After having imposed another deadline on Israel and that deadline having again expired they again won’t stop sending arms to Israel. Even when this is the last fucking chance before Trump is taking over. You can’t just ignore this shit.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 83 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Face palm. It's fucking tragic what is about to escalate for the Palestinians. I hope all the people that blathered on with nonsense about "Genocide Joe" are able to do some self-reflection.

FFS.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 57 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Surprising no one they all vanished back into nothing.

Like the "swift boat veterans for truth"

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Lmao fuck off with that. We're still here.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 22 points 4 months ago (8 children)

There's been basically no change in the posting about Palestine since the election, but these people (including this two month old account) have a narrative in their head and won't let reality intervene.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago (3 children)

I think there's another narrative that just assumes Trump will be significantly different from what Kamala would have been.

What can Trump do that Biden/Kamala haven't already? Much is being made about Trump sitting by while Netanyahu annexes large chunks of the West Bank. But that's already been happening.

There has been much made about Trump potentially allowing Israel to annex parts of Gaza. But Biden has sat back and let Israel completely ethnically cleanse northern Gaza. If Biden/Trump didn't lift a finger to stop an ethnic cleansing, what makes you think they would do anything when Israel files some paperwork to formally annex land? Hundreds of thousands of people area dead. I'm sorry, but compared to that, a little paperwork to formally take territory is a minor crime indeed.

War with Iran? Israel doesn't want a war with Iran. They've been playing a careful tit-for-tat game with Tehran, trying to save face while avoiding an all-out war. And there's little evidence Trump would get the US involved if a full war did start.

I mean really, what exactly do you expect Trump to do that Biden/Harris already haven't? They've given Israel a complete blank check. I think we tend to just assume because he's overtly racist against Muslims that he is going to be worse for the Palestinians. Yes, Biden and Harris aren't overtly racist against the Muslims. But in terms of their actual actions, I can't think of anything Trump can do that they already haven't.

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

People think that Israel ethnic cleansing of 2 million people in a few months is worse than ethnic cleansing them over 4 years!

If Biden set any form of red line, or at least Blinken wasn't bluntly lying everytime he goes there or the US didn't Veto UN resolutions to "allow aid" maybe we can argue the dem would be better but as stand nothing will change.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

People think that Israel ethnic cleansing of 2 million people in a few months is worse than ethnic cleansing them over 4 years!

First of all, it will be far more than 2 million people.

But also, yes! Fucking yes, of course it is worse! What?!? Are you fucking joking??

Holy shit people are delusional. You don't get to just say "well, we can't know if a Democrat would be different," and absolve yourself from your responsibility in this. When will be the point where you realize (yet I'm sure continue to refuse to admit in an attempt to preserve your own sanity perhaps)? Will it be when they annex the West Bank (like immediately after 1/20, they're already talking about it)? Will it be when the slaughtering of Palestinians gets kicked into high gear, and the real elimination begins?

You will live with the results of your actions (or inaction). There will be a point, and it won't take long, where nobody who is honest with themselves will be able to claim that we can't know if Kamala would be better or worse.

I don't think Biden and Harris are the same person. I think she was cowardly but I also think she wants to be hip and loved and could have been shamed with sustained pressure. Not a sure thing, and likely to be weak sauce, but a possibility. I don't see that as likely with either Biden or Trump. And the possibility of stopping something as big as genocide and permanent land grabs is much better than no chance at all.

But I also don't blame Arabs for voting (or not voting) emotionally for the actions of Biden and the inaction of Harris now. Don't kill someone's family and then ask them to think of the bigger picture.

Seeing as biden gave billions in support of israel while they carried out this genocide for over a year, the moniker is well-earned. Hopefully you do some self-reflection to realize that both parties full-throatedly support israel. The other guy being worse is not an excuse to support genocide. Democrats will keep talking about how much worse republicans are while moving to the right in pace with them.

[–] morphballganon 16 points 4 months ago

Narrator: They aren't.

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 46 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I, for one, am shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Who could have guessed Trump would appoint somebody who doesn't recognize the victims of genocide as real people? It's not like Trump called pro-Palestinians protestor "pro-Hamas thugs" and "jihad sympathizers" or said "I will give Israel the support that it needs to win but I do want them to win fast" or called attempts by Biden to negotiate a cease fire an attempt to "tie Israel's hand behind its back".

How could anybody have known? By looking at how he handled conflicts in the area during his first administration? What are we? A nation of nerds that try to make educated decisions about our political leaders?

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (2 children)

What real difference does this make though? I honestly don't see what actually is going to change in Gaza. Yes, Biden isn't overtly racist against Palestinians, but he doesn't consider them human beings either. He's given Israel a complete blank check to do whatever they want. And I expect that to continue unchanged under Trump. As a practical matter, I really don't see what Trump can do that Biden already hasn't. Trump will just be a lot ruder about it.

Genuine question: To all the Democrats who chose not to vote for Kamala Harris because of the Palestinian issue, what's your thought process?

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

All people's nationalities are made up.

Just like all nation state borders.

Just like all religions.

Hell, someone pulled your vaunted, family crest owning last name directly out of their asshole at some point in your ancestry. It's all just ego stroking bullshit.

The problem, as always, is that people take these made up bullshit designations seriously, to the point of mass murder.

We are all actually the same species, capable of similar highs and lows of emotion, of pain, of hunger.

Too bad most everyone refuses to start and end with that, because if we're all equally deserving of empathy and resources, how can I get mooooooaaaaar than those other people I'm clearly better than? Because my Parents, President, and Priests said I deserve more than those bad people that live in the wrong place and suck the wrong imaginary friend's imaginary dick.

I’ve already commented but sorry I got to say

“The first ever mention of an ancient land called Israel was by an Egyptian Pharaoh, Merneptah, 3429 years ago,” reads a meme that has made the rounds on Facebook. “The first ever mention of an ancient land called Palestine was by an Egyptian opportunist, Yasser Arafat, 57 years ago.”

Literally the Do you have a flag argument.
