Mine would be Flight B741 by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard https://youtu.be/Ik-gBAlEbQY

[–] WilhelmStroker@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation.

[–] sockman@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The New Sound by Geordie Greep though this was a stellar year for albums imo and it's hard to pick just one

[–] linucs@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Agree with the whole comment but yeah I love every song of The New Sound, especially The Magician. Also I "discovered" black midi at the beginning of the year and was sad to learn they splitted, thankfully Greep released this masterpiece.

Songs of a Lost World by The Cure

[–] GoOnASteamTrain@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Ooh another opportunity to yell from the rooftops how great "Nobody Loves You More" by Kim Deal is! :) Honestly a fully fantastic album that I love. :)

"Romance" by Fontaines DC was another brilliant one!

ooh and the new Cure album!

[–] Hr24@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Still haven't listened to the new Cure album. But Romance is probably my AOTY. Nobody Loves You More is great.

[–] CaptSneeze@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

A friend of mine put on that Kim Deal album for me the other day when we were talking about albums that came out this year. I’ve only heard it the one time so far, but agree it was great!

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

The year just started, I haven't even had a chance to record my annual 12 Farts Of The Year yet..

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The only "real" album that came out in 2024 that I listened to start-to-finish was Hyperdrama by Justice. It got a lot of flak online for being "uninspired" etc etc, but I think that mostly speaks to how great their first two studio albums were. The opening track on this one features Tame Impala and has an equally awesome music video.

After that, second place would be a tie between two 2024 live albums: ¡Blow it … at Madison's Quinceañera! by Me First and The Gimme Gimmes and Beast of Horns by They Might Be Giants. I got the latter on vinyl for Christmas and it's a lot of fun if you're a fan.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Hey someone else who likes Justice and They Might Be Giants!

Missed that they had a new album, thanks!

CHROMAKOPIA

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Definitely a tie between Where Have "All The Merrymakers Gone?" (Harvey Danger), "Example" (Four Squirrels), and "Four" (Blues Travelers). Definitely my most played and favorite albums of 2024.

As of this year, it's looking like "Ten Thousand Fists" (Disturbed) is taking the lead as my favorite. We could see an upset folks!

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

I'm not trying to shit on your here but really? A bunch of 90s bands putting out old age money grabs? I assume you didn't mean to misspell Blues Traveler.

And I'm waiting for the punch like this person has to have a good one and it's fucking Disturbed? Ohh ah ah ah ah, Disturbed? Yeah I liked them when I was a young teen when that came out. Fuck my life I came to this thread hoping for new shit. You have to be joking.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago

Didn't realize I put the extra "s" in "Traveler". Also, to each their own. Never got to experience any of these albums growing up since I wasn't there to experience the 90s and was too young to be able explore the 2000s metal scene until at least the 2010s (if I had become interested in it) and appreciate it. So, I definitely stick with picking stuff I've started listening to relatively recently over something new, especially since I'm not a big fan of modern English pop music and don't have any albums from any foreign bands/singers I like (assuming they still do CDs).

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I'm not even the person you're replying to, but you're formally invited to kiss my ass anyway. When op asked for "your" album of the year, they didn't mean you specifically.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I'm with Ace, I don't think I could name an album from the past 5 years. Artists and songs, sure, but I'm not looking up album titles, or even listening to an entire one from start to finish.

[–] missphant@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay, though almost shared 1st place with Charli XCX' BRAT remix album.

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Thought I'd see more BRAT in this thread. I guess lemmy just doesn't serve cunt like I'd hoped.

[–] databender@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

PowerNerd by Devin Townsend

[–] Sidewalker@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

Cure - ERRA

They had a hard act to follow after their nearly perfect self-titled album, but Cure was almost as good, and that is mighty praise indeed.

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

Enjoyed 'Yesterwynde' by Nightwish a lot last year

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Time II by Wintersun. It was a long wait, but I'd almost call it worth it, 'cause the album is so good.

[–] Chaos0f7ife@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Different pick from most, but I really enjoyed "SMILE! :D" by Porter Robinson. I might be biased though. Porter is my all time favorite artist.

[–] Interstellar_1@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I forgot SMILE :D released this year! Also a really great album!

[–] Chaos0f7ife@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It really is! Although I still believe nothing will beat Nurture. That's not just Album of the year, it's the GOAT.

Night Palace by Mount Eerie for me

Maybe seconded by The New Sound by Geordie Greep

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

"Real Death" will always be the first song I think about when hearing someone mention "Mount Eerie"

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

:( First you're there, and then you're not.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

The album that was released in 2024 that got the most plays was The Queen of Spades by Koan.

The album that I played the most was Unfold (2020) by Icarus

[–] grumpo_potamus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The Past Is Still Alive by Hurray for the Riff Raff.

Easily one of my most played of 2024. Shame I missed them when they came through my city. Loved the songwriting, the music and the singing. The whole album was strong and the vibe resonated with me.

Mine is 'Sangs of a Lost World' by 'the Cure'. It may even be my favourite Cure album.
