But if the deputy had shot and murdered the inmate instead he would have been given a paid vacation, and probably a raise.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

And we definitely wouldn't see his name and face plastered in the news.

While it sounds silly, COs accepting payment for doing favors for an inmate is not a good thing. That's the kind of thing that sorta needs to be a zero tolerance policy.

True, but why are we making food contraband in the first place? That seems incredibly unnecessary

Because inmates get super creative with smuggling in drugs and weapons.

A hyperbolic example is the king of the hill episode where Peggy gets conned into smuggling cocaine into prison.

It probably has to do with the inability/expense of the facility to be able to properly secure outside food against other more serious kinds of contraband.

i didn't see in the article that he accepted more than the cost of the meal.

He got a burger as well. It's seemingly minor, but we have a saying that "many small streams make a large river". The cop probably meant well, but it's unacceptable behavior unfortunately.

That's still payment for doing a favor.

Yes, it's compensation for doing a favor. Payment doesn't have to be cash.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

What compensation? He said that he only gave him enough money to pay for the food. If I give you $10 and say go buy me $10 of something there's no compensation.

He ate some fries on the way this is unacceptable

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

They gave him enough that he could buy food for himself.

When my kids were little, I went with them on a group tour of the police station. Hopefully the jail part of the tour was intended to be a “scared straight” experience because they really succeeded in making it dehumanizing.

For food, they said they would take money from your possessions to buy McDonald’s. No choice of what food, no choice of better food, no choice of when. And you get your meal whether you eat it or not.

Whataburger seems like a huge step up, plus if you’re stealing my money, giving me a choice doesn’t seem out of line

This is hilarious, I feel like there are better ways to show kids the horrors of imprisonment than telling them "you don't get to pick your value meal."

Everyone should be arrested for bringing anyone Whataburger.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Why?

I haven’t had whattaburger since like 2008, but I used to absolutely love it, especially the triple triple. That was a great betting burger.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago

It’s the internet. We hate on things here. That’s why.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Not for nothing but it ain't like it was in 2008. It's fallen off a fucking cliff after it got bought by that investment firm a few years back.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Whataburger is great what are you on about

I still crave Honey BBQ chicken strips sandwiches but I can't get them :(

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Exactly! Might as well get em McDonalds

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

C’mon, whataburger isn’t as good as it used to be, but it’s definitely better than mcdonalds.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Was it a Whataburger dry run?
