I really hope this is true. More depressing than Trump winning the election has been everyone being so resigned and despondent. If people don't fight for every inch, he's going to take miles and miles before everyone wakes up.

Yeah, the number of Democratic lawmakers voting for his cabinet appointees and that "deport migrants who are just charged with a crime" legislation has been awful to watch, hopefully this snaps them out of acting like Republicans won some landslide
It is truly concerning how many democrats are going along with this nonsense. Defy, resist, fight.
There's a different set of 3 words I've been liking a lot more lately
Deny his lies and false orders.
Defend your community from fascist oppression.
Depose that orange fucker and all his stooges.
So then you're a hardcore democrat supporter so they can get 60 votes and pass single payer like they tried to do a decade ago when they had 58 and couldn't convince the caucusing independents?
I'm a what now?
Deny Depose Defend is a slogan used by people who protest the unnecessary death caused by greedy health insurance executives.
So if you're a good faith rational actor you should support the DNC because they want exactly what you want and oppose the people who want the polar opposite.
I'm a good faith rational actor who votes blue but I certainly don't call myself a Democrat - let alone a hardcore Democrat. There are several Democrats I love, they just don't represent the party as a whole.
The DNC has been failing me for a decade so the only thing I support is new, progressive leadership. No more of this establishment shit, I'm tired of voting for out-of-touch career politicians through gritted teeth.
We keep telling you they are on the same side. The good cop/ bad cop routine is tissue paper thin, and still the constituency refuses to see it.
Get 60 Dems in senate, give them house majority, and then we can talk about how similar they are. They had a supermajority with caucusing independents over a decade ago for only 72 days and it gave us medicaid expansion and the most productive congress since the 89th congress.
None of these appointments would be taking place if people had simply voted Dem to begin with.
Narrator: "it won't."
The gay man and the former florida senator I can understand, and Hegseth barely passed at all not even getting all 53 Republicans, but idk why tf a fox news host got 23 democrats to sign off on becoming transportation secretary.
RFK hearing is going on as I type this and most of his picks are TBD.
Fighting for every inch should have happened during the election, but demonstrably in this comment section we would all rather shit on Democrats than try to fix this by convincing people to vote for them.
This is a total shutdown of the federal government for everything besides personnel. All science research in the US has stopped. States are losing their funding. Completely unconstitutional.
Should have just went bidirectional. Stopped all funding from the states to the federal government. The federal government would what? Print money to try to pay the soilders to invade their homeland? Not much can be done if the states all said fuck you to the federal government
I'm starting to see more and more that this is how the inevitable schism will occur. I was afraid our nation's demise would be armed conflict, but based on the last week I now believe it will be some combination of Feds withholding funding, states responding by withholding revenue, and then those states that are net exporters of dollars to the federal government just starts managing themselves without oversight.
States will form coalitions of like-minded governments with similar economic interests. States like California and Texas will be centers of gravity and will have incredible negotiating power. Others (see: deep red south) will slide into near third world status. Some might actually become Canadian Territories. Interesting to think about academically.
Surely someone has done the research and put the thought into how this could go. And written it down?
You say that but let's say you eliminate all Medicare Medicaid and social security coming from Trump, do you see the older population voting for him then? All the sudden universal healthcare coverage sounds pretty good. If you told a family you can raise your family in a state that has healthcare or not, id choose healthcare. Aka people attempting to flee states that didn't support it. It would create a requirement for the states to have it or lose their labor sources (and funding for the future). Aka whatever they call social security rides on keeping the labor force.
do you see the older population voting for him then?
Feel free to call me Chicken Little, but I believe we have likely voted in our last free and open election. Between voter suppression, media consolidation, and outright manipulation, I can imagine an outcome that no longer reflects even the illusion of the people's will.
id choose healthcare
If only it were that easy. Relocating is financially draining. And emotionally challenging if you're leaving family behind. And, why don't we all move to Canada, or Europe, or anywhere else for healthcare? You don't think the first thing Texas does after the split is put up checkpoints and require "papers" to travel outside the New Confederate States of Jesus Christ?
I hope we look back on this conversation in four years and all agree I was alarmist and overly imaginative. And wrong. But with every headline it seems we inch closer.
You're right on many points and I agree. But no one takes your homeland. States stand in solitude further than people believe. Hate has divided us. But that doesn't mean hate can't union us as well. Spread the word. Trump is and has always been the harbinger of the rich and the annihilation of the middle class. He knows nothing but his birth, same as Musk, they were born rich. They are not our friends, they have always been our enemy.
Ill give you a puncher slogan" He IS the swamp
For many, the fear of the "other" supercedes the imperative to negotiate and collaborate collectively.
"I am willing to lose so long as this leader makes the people I profess to hate lose more."
Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives
Where is this from?
That's from disco elysium. It's a fantastic game, you should play it. Don't give the studio any money though, they forced out the original devs and are sitting on the IP that they didn't create. It's kind of fucked.
In r/fedNews, it seems that ill-thought-out email about voluntary redundancies has somewhat galvanised fed employees. Some even linked the famous manual.
Good, I was hoping that would happen. That email (the reply “resign” to resign one) was a fucking insult.
This is distraction and chaos on purpose. It may even be a ploy to go to the SC to get more exec power
Democrats everywhere have been checked out from reality for almost 3 months. Good opportunity as any now to get their ass in gear and act as a proper opposition.
They can't do anything. As a minority party, Dems can filibuster bills going through congress but they can't do anything to the president or pass any bills unless Republicans help them.
We've created a pit we can't climb out of.
In the House, Democrats lead some key committees, which hold more power rhan than you think, should they wield it. The majority there is also razor thin and so it will take even one or two purple state Republicans to get cold feet to block the Congressional agenda. The (R) Senators are playing a performative game with who's allowed to pretend they disagree with a party while they still carry through their lock step voting, but with enough calls from constituents including MAGA and ex-MAGA people that inevitably get hurt by it, there's a chance it may not last.
One or two Republicans could have changed countless outcomes over the decades, such as tax reforms and single player healthcare, but I'm not placing bets on it. Also, they need 6 Republican Senators + Independents, because the USA only has 45 Democrat senators. If Trump does something, Dems do not have the power to oppose him.
It means fuck all if Democrats mobilize because we voted them out of majority. Congress needs to move to stop Trump, right now Dems only have power to stop Congress.
Also the Neolibs are currently getting exactly what they want so don't expect them to do anything to stop their conservative friends
Oh look a "both-sides-bad" centrist. Hey, thanks for helping to elect a fascist, really opening peoples eyes about the corruption by actively putting the corruption in power.
I keep seeing people say stuff like this, but are you seeing the good guys do anything? The article itself said that they're now getting together to discuss how they can start stopping the bad guys. So one begs to ask the question, what have they been doing thus far?
I would be seeing the good guys do things if people actually fucking voted them into a supermajority. I've seen the good guys do things for over 20 years, I have loved ones who would be dead or suffering without the necessary services paid for by the good guys, I read the Kamala Harris plan to tax the rich, I have 100% faith in the good guys.
The fact that you think the bad guys are acceptable in the first place would be baffling, but I know for a fact most of you bad actors are just enemies of the USA and all their people trying to push us in the wrong direction on purpose.
The bad guys did a sufficient job of dismantling your joke of a democracy while the good guys had the presidency. I'm not saying that they're the exact same, hence why I'm differentiating between good and bad. Obviously the good guys give more of a shit about the lives of the populus. I'm just making the observation that the good guys don't seem all that broken up about losing.
Someone doesn't know what punching from the left looks like and mistakes it for centrism.
