"On Tuesday, at a stunning joint press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump announced the US will be taking over and running Gaza, potentially for the foreseeable future.

“Everybody I've spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land, developing and creating thousands of jobs with something that will be magnificent,” Trump told reporters after a three-hour meeting with Netanyahu. "

the geniuses who said "im not voting for Harris because of Palestine" must be feeling really smart right now

[–] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They will tell you that this result was inevitable and to look at the positive side of things (what ever this may be). Which is easy to do or say since they are not Palestinians

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Which means their protest votes were meaningless. So it's a weird excuse that they're making.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (9 children)

No, their protest votes were not meaningless

They actively put trump in the whitehouse.

The American electoral system gives a voter the choice of potentially improving things (Dem) or actively making things worse (Rep). Given FPTP and the heavy use of propaganda, all other options (spoiling, abstaining, third party voting) equate to a republican vote, there is no other reality.

If an American did not vote Democrat in the election that just passed, they voted for complete ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the gutting of human rights in the USA—they didn't even try to hide what they were going to do this time. There is zero excuse.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Sorry, to clarify, I mean they were meaningless in terms of doing anything about stopping any genocide.

And now we can add more genocide in the U.S. to what is going on in Palestine.

downvotes? me thinks some of those geniuses are here.

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They still blame it on Biden and Harris.
One argument I see a lot is that it's somehow Kamala's fault by not trying hard enough to win their votes.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it's next level stupid, that's for sure.

Harris got more votes than Biden did in the majority of the key swing states. Stop directing your anger at people other than those who actually voted for him.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nope, people who stayed home instead of voting Democrat are worthy of anger too. Not voting has consequences.

Well, those who were payed to got their pay and don't care, and those dumb enough to fall for their logic and regurgitate it will just pick up on whatever The Next Big argument being regurgitated is. Something something this only server to support my argument something something was needed to show how flawed the system was something something.

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Those people are too busy foaming at the mouth over the gulf of America. They never gave a shit about Palestine, it was nothing more than a convenience for them.

I'm certain this was exactly Kamala's plan. She never said the magic combination of words that means she believes exactly what I want her to believe, so obviously this would have happened either way.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

She said she would do nothing different. The genocide was obvious for months prior. Why would you continue defending this at this point? It’s been gross for over a year. Dems lost for many reasons, and on this issue it is fucking inexcusable.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

She said she would do nothing different from Biden.

This is different from Biden. Very different.

Believe it or not, things can get worse even if they were bad before and pretending this was Harris' plan as well is just silly.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Harris's plan: Gazans continue to suffer with constant bombardments and crumbling infrastructure. The US offers minor humanitarian aid and pays lip service to their plight.

Trump's plan: Extermination of all Gazans in a massive US-backed and Israeli-executed ethnic cleansing campaign in order to turn Gaza into a vacation spot for rich Israelis. Possible location for the next Trump hotel and casino.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Trump's plan sounds a lot like what reality has been. Was he in the Biden administration?

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't remember child-skull paved roads leading to the POTUS-branded casino and resort spa that Biden built, gotta link?

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Guess those 20 thousand children killed themselves.

Cool, I'm sure the rest of America will still get no apology from the people that kept telling us Kamala/Biden were jUsTaSbAD. So he's going to be incredibly worse not just on Israel, but far worse in every other fucking single way.

Thanks guys!

I want to see the convoluted logic the mental gymnasts who pushed forth against voting for Biden so Trump wouldn't get elected on issues like Palestine come up with. It's an art.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Anyone who voted for Biden is an absolute moron.

~…he wasn’t the candidate~

It’s an art.

It's a standard and often-used propaganda tactic, popular with the Russians, among others.

To be clear, Trump is now openly promoting genocide. I considered this administration fascist up until now. Now, they full ass Nazis. Any American not going to the protests tomorrow and participating in a full on general strike is complicit with Nazis.

[–] Ronno@feddit.nl 11 points 1 month ago

I agree with your first two sentences, but not with your last one. You have to take into consideration that many people are in different situations. If you have trouble making ends meet, if you need your job to feed your family, you might not be inclined to risk your job to protest. What I'm trying to say is, not all people that don't protest are Nazis. Stating they are creates another layer of polarization that isn't bringing us anywhere near a solution. And yes: Us. even though I'm not a US citizen, it unfortunately affects the world.

[–] deathbysnusnu@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I bet someone in that shitty Trump family will be first to build and exploit.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Yes Kushner.

[–] maplebar@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Called it. Good job to the idiots who voted for this or didn't vote at all and allowed Trump to win. Nice work.

This news has me worried that Gaza will be the new camp for "undesirables" that we're struggling to deport. I sure hope I am wrong.

[–] MunkyNutts@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not likely after his "Riviera of the Middle East" and knowledge that his son-in-law Jared Kushner has ties will wealthy people in that area. They're probably salivating to scoop up that land for pennies on the dollars (or free) and have all their wealthy backers develop the land as a resort for the wealthy.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

The really neat trick is the land is way too risky as it stands for any developer to take on even putting aside the horrific context. There's just too much dangerous stuff lying around.

So he spends US government resources to get things nice and ready by spending taxpayer money and then hands it over to his family to make their money when the area is suitably ready.

Just like the sovereign fund where he wants to toss a bunch of tax money into a fund and then use that fund to give to Elon so Elon can use taxpayer money to buy TikTok, while the US government makes TikTok worth less through screwing with their business.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nah, Trump sees "Gaza Strip" and two things pop into that despicable brain of his:

  • Sweet Mediterranean beachfront territory ripe for resorts
  • The word "strip" means it should be like the Las Vegas strip

His camps are going to be in places he sees as unambiguously devoid of potential.
