I've noticed that conservatives cant feel empathy. They only feel sympathy. This is why they don't understand any injustice until if effects them personally. This is the root psychological reasoning behind the leopards eating faces memes.

The richest man in the world, who has only ONCE paid anything approaching a 20% tax rate and crowed like he was a PHILANTHROPIST when he did, is removing all social programs that are a safety net for the poorest and most desperate among us.

Empathy? Sympathy? They are vampires.

I prefer to call them Ghouls.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Completely unrelated, I had a character for Age of Sigmar's Soulbound (TTRPG). I played a ghoul named Jeff Bezos and I doubled down on the ghoul madness.

I'm just waiting to bring back Jeff with his now 2 imaginary friends, Musky and Zucky.

Stop censoring these people's names and faces. They said it. They said it out loud and proud, in front of god and everyone. Why are we afraid to show them?!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Some places do have rules against name and shame, to be fair. Not sure that this is one of them, but still a safe general rule to follow.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Those places deserve pushback on that bullshit

If someone said it in public then they're fine with it being out there

"We're happier than libruls"

Must be the whole "Ignorance is bliss" as well

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure that they are "happier" is not a factual statement.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

Was going to say, most that I know seem pretty miserable and looking for someone to blame or hate

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Like a cop beating up a suspect they're... happy.

ahh yes family values like bailing Andrew Tate out.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not to mention worshipping a thrice-married sexual predator

They must be euphoric.

If conservatives were happy they wouldn't act the way they do.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I have a conservative friend who will start screaming like a little girl when a cyclist is doing nothing other than just using the bikelane that happens to come into an intersection with the road he's on.

Such happy people, amazing.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why are you friends with douchebags? I'm not trying to be snarky, I am genuinely interested

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I have a douchebag friend. We have a lot in common. We're both like playing pinball. We both get migraines, and we both have chronic pain. Both have families that we love a lot. We're both older and retired. I genuinely like him.

He posts a lot of shit on Facebook "owning" liberals. I don't think it suits him, but I think he's caught up in the moment, and I think his pain and migraines get to him a bit.

I believe he's too good a man to stay on this track, and I'm going to be there when he realizes it. And I'll give him a hug and tell him I understand.

My sister has a childhood best friend that she had been through everything with, including him coming out as gay, and in her 50s her friend started supporting Trump. Again, I don't think it suits him, he's a sweet guy, but she just quit a relationship of 40 years because of that.

We gotta look inside people. They have s lot of reasons for what they do.

Lack of empathy and utterly selfish. It enables these trash humans to take others rights and believe the lie that doing it is a good thing.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 weeks ago

Privilege. Especially white privilege. It's easier to be happy when you're benefiting from the invisible suffering of others.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are they happier? Because they sure do complain a lot and get enraged over the simplest of issues.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

get enraged over the simplest of issues.

Those issues are not even real most of the time and they're still raging mad. 😂

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He does stand up. He's pretty funny. I like when he heckles back at hecklers.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

The funny part is that he’s known as a heckle comedian but has publicly stated that he hates hecklers. He’s only known as a heckle comedian because he has zero qualms about tearing them down as soon as they try. His comebacks are usually pretty brutal because he just wants to end the heckling and keep his set moving.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I was going to say to stupid to know any better.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

More like blissfully ignorant. My experience with conservatives is that they like to sweep problems under the rug and pretend everything to be fine.

People these days seem happiest when ostracizing, excluding, and destroying another's life just because they are different.

Empathy is dead, because if you show empathy it's grounds for expulsion. Anyone still capable of empathy has been ejected from society by the twitter mob over the past decade. The only people left are callous bullies.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

"Fuck you, got mine " exemplified .

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Stupid people tend to be happier, yes it's true.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He's so funny, he does it for work! He's an excellent comedian, one who doesn't invite hecklers but will destroy them.

He's smart because he's educated. He's also a sharp wit but he just generally knows a lot of shit.

Sadly, his tour stop near me is too far away so I can't go.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Those hecklers are plants. How do you not know this?

Ignorance is bliss, and to persist with conservatism requires embracing an ever expanding level of wilful ignorance.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Love Steve. Been following him for years.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Isn’t he that guy that plants hecklers in his audience that serve him meatballs so he can come off as clever and quick-witted?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you have evidence that they're plants? This is the first I've heard of that accusation. He does get an unusually high number of hecklers, and it fuels a lot of his online content, so I wouldn't be shocked if they're plants, but I haven't heard any definitive proof. I'd just as soon believe that people heckle him more because they think they're smarter than his previous hecklers or want attention or something, but idk.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah. The dude has a TON of heckler videos. For starters.. It’s incredibly unrealistic for a comedian to be heckled that often. Secondly, his responses are always perfectly timed and executed without hesitation. Every time. With not even a slight pause or moment to collect his thoughts before tearing into the person.

Only Robin Williams is that skilled at improv.

I’ll add that he’s well known for behind a huge asshole in the comedy circuit. Look it up. And lastly, heckling generally gets you tossed out of clubs. None of his plants ever get tossed that I’ve seen.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (11 children)

Still not hearing any definitive proof. Professional comedians, especially well educated ones, can and do have quick and witty comebacks pretty often. And like I said, it's possible that he gets heckled so much because of his reputation for engaging with hecklers, so it may attract overconfident hecklers to come see him.

I'm not gonna knock the late, great Robin Williams, but it's a little weird to say that he's the only person capable of disarming a heckler this effectively. I think most accomplished comedians could do what Steve Hofstetter does, more or less; he is much more knowledgeable about economics and civics than most probably are, so he's able to wield that handily.

Idk anything about his reputation for being an asshole. He's constantly getting work and tours with a consistent group and seems like a good dude, so I have my doubts, and I'm not interested in looking that up for myself when you're not even willing to do it to prove it to me. And yes, hecklers do get tossed from his shows. He usually tries to get them to stop, and then if they don't then he usually embarrasses them to the point that they leave on their own, but some are so shameless that they do need to be removed. That generally happens after the rest of the crowd gets so pissed off that a fight seems likely.

I'm not saying that there aren't plants. I'm saying that I'm only seeing speculation and no actual proof to support that accusation. I'm not down with alleging that he's a fraud when there's no evidence to do so. Imagine destroying his livelihood just because you didn't believe he could possibly be this good at his full time job lol. Comedians are notoriously good at this sort of thing.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

Ahah, but how could a professional comedian - someone who is literally trained to be funny in front of an audience - be that good at being funny in front of an audience? Checkmate liberal!

Do these people have any idea how stupid they sound? This is the dumbest conspiracy theory of all time. Yes, some people are actually just really good at being witty on the spot. Not all stand up comedians just recite a bunch of prewritten jokes, most of them (especially the really good ones) teach themselves how to be improvisationally funny. These idiots sound like they've never seen an improv comedy show, or a British panel show or any other kind of improv comedy.

And the idea that it would be hard to get genuine hecklers by saying vaguely left wing stuff in America is even dumber. Sorry America but opinionated assholes are basically 90% of your population. If anything it's surprising he doesn't get more hecklers.

There has been lots of studies on this, and part of the issue is how do you get an honest rating of someone's happiness?

Here is an (10 year old) article from Time about and how studies show it's not an easy thing to judge.

Summary:

  • Self-Reported Happiness: Conservatives often report higher levels of happiness compared to liberals.
  • Research Studies: New studies indicate that conservatives may judge their lives and circumstances more positively than liberals.
  • Emotional Language: Analysis of transcripts from Congress shows that liberals use more positive words than conservatives.
  • Genuine Happiness: Studies on smiling intensity suggest liberals display more genuine happiness.
  • Impact on Behavior: Conservatives have a more confident style of self-assessment, which might contribute to their reported happiness.

The research suggests that the way conservatives and liberals perceive and report their happiness might be influenced by their self-assessment styles.
