Honest question. Why should I give two shits about any company, American or otherwise?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago

Because Capitalism demands fealty to Capital. The only exception being if Capital puts on any kind of veneer of human decency. Then you are allowed to break out the pitchforks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

About some one might, but that depends on the importance of the company. VW failing for example is quite unsettling as a German citizen

If you follow Target stock long enough you'll learn politics doesn't play into it at all. It goes up and down for going "woke" the same as it goes up and down for removing DEI.

It's just a shitty stock with a decent dividend rate.

This would be such a good burn if it were actually one-sided.

Problem is, 99% of voters are partisan ideologues and their positions are based on nothing but political convenience or whatever their preferred news network told them to think on a given day.

Tim Walz just keeps getting better and better! MN Love! 💜

There is no inconsistency.

Disney/Bud/Target weren’t American anymore because they were woke.

Tesla supports the party, so it isn’t.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This is correct. They have decided that everyone outside the MAGA bubble cannot be a "real" American and is therefore excluded.

It’s really beneficial for fascism to have as many enemies as possible, especially if they really have little to do with what’s really going on. Keep the idiots angry and satiated like they’re part of something powerful until it’s far too late for them to do anything when there’s no more enemies and they’re next on the chopping block.

[–] [email protected] 55 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

Go fascist, meet actual long term damaging effects.

Not got the same ring to it, but it's not an empty promise.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 12 hours ago

Go fash get bashed?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Go fascist, get Nuremberged?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 hours ago

Well, first you have to defeat the fascists, which usually means killing lots of them. Only after that can you trial and then hang the rest of them.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Weeell, kinda. Then you remember Bayer and VW, among others.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

Well, Tesla is a US company, as VW/Bayer was/is a German company.
The UK government took stewardship over VW after ww2 https://www.hagerty.com/media/automotive-history/how-major-ivan-hirst-and-the-british-government-saved-vw-after-wwii/
It also took bayer 30 YEARS to re-establish as a brand.

I would question VW/Bayer's "driving force" behind the Nazis. There is some amount of "well, I guess we are doing holocaust now" kinda thing.
Regardless 80 years on, an entire world war, and massive trials... I feel like they have paid some dues.
No doubt still a shitty corporation, but unlikely in support of actively firing the people maintaining the nuclear arsenal, thinking internment camps are efficient (and they still have a "DEI" page https://www.volkswagen-group.com/en/diversity-and-inclusion-16087 (although their single mention of LGBT+ has an asterisk next to it which doesn't seem to reference anything))

fElon owns a social media company. He is frauding governments, engineering the collapse of social support programs and science, gaslighting/propaganda-ing the population/government (felon controlling the government: https://truthout.org/articles/aoc-pharma-reforms-had-almost-unanimous-house-support-until-elon-musk-tweeted/ or https://www.forbes.com/sites/gebai/2024/12/31/blame-the-game-or-the-players-regulating-pharmacy-benefit-managers/ ) while his party engineers book-~~burning~~banning, science denialism, creating lists of trans people (non-conformants), detaining people based on political opinion, and is starting a very aggressive trade-war.
Never mind the drugs fElon is on.

So yeh. There are lessons to be learned from ww2.
There are still companies around from then, and they have changed.
There are probably more scientists working for the US then there are Nazis working in the EU.... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip
But all that shit is documented. And now we can call that shit out a few weeks into the issue instead (hopefully instead) of having a big world war about it.

I would say cudos to VW and Bayer for being able to still be companies (respectable companies?) after being such a part of the nazi war machine.
Same with Hugo Boss. And Fanta. And BMW. And Kodak. And Siemens. And IBM. Even the Associated Press self-censored their news. Oh, and Ford.
https://historycollection.com/10-famous-companies-collaborated-nazi-germany/

I hope we have learned. I hope Tesla is a lesson to other companies. I hope America is a lesson to other countries.
Punish that shit behaviour. Burn that shit. Don't let it start again

Damn that was a helluva post! 🙏

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

although their single mention of LGBT+ has an asterisk next to it which doesn't seem to reference anything

That's an interesting acronym choice in 2025 and I would actually guess the employee group picked it themselves maybe a decade ago. The asterisk became fairly common in queer tech circles and it had started popping up outside of tech about a decade ago but has fallen out of favor and it's only tech I see it in anymore. The * is a wildcard character, exactly like in programming.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 13 hours ago

conservatives don't care about facts or consistency. they care about feelings. They just say stuff. They're bad people.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 14 hours ago

Yes, because Tesla is such a snowflake mom and pop's operation. Such tragedy a soulless corporation that treats its employees like trash is losing value to its very wealthy major investors.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Why should anyone other than Mushk give two shits about Tesla failing?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Many people have retirement accounts. That money doesn’t just sit there in cash. It is invested in the stock market.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

Maybe the rigged casinos they call capital markets have been a plague upon mankind and need to be a lot more than occupied.

Maybe letting people accrue more currency aka power than they need to live in exchange for no labor has doomed our society and our species.

Maybe those retirement accounts that make up a small fraction of the value of the market were just a Trojan horse to get laborers to allow murder for private profit, homelessness for private profit, academic economic segregation for profit, destruction of the commons for profit...

You should be able to (at some point) accumulate enough wealth that you can live at least half your life in luxury without ever working another day.

That should be a difficult , but possibly attainable goal.

You should not be able to accumulate enough wealth to make hundreds of people commit their life's work solely to your whims. You should not be able to accumulate enough wealth to just buy politics.

That's what's fundamentally broken in our system. It's fixable, if the right people want to.

That was a great, honest vid. I subscribed. Thanks for sharing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 hours ago

Tesla is not sinking anyone's retirement account in any appreciable way.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 hours ago

Got a little bummed when I saw that TSLA was back up to 250. It's all good now tho lmao
