I wish. Have wanted to go for a long time.
Hawaii has a good, free or low cost medicaid program. They also have a state law that makes sure many part time employees get insurance, as well. Somewhere around 95%, of the popualtion, if not more, have some form of insurance.
Has their medicaid program been unaffected by the Trump cuts?
All states will be affected. Mostly, it means each state will have to spend more of its own money to maintain the same level of care.
What that means for the people will vary by state.

They know they have the rights to the originals, right? They don't have to make terrible knock-offs.

It’s absolute garbage, and the ending literally goes against the theme of the first movie (eg - Nani gives Lilo up)
Oh shit, they had a blue print for success and fuzzy family shit and they could not even get that right?
They also neutered the political messaging of the film - the themes around tourism and how that affects native Hawaiians. Really wish that they had left this scene in the original animated movie.
It’s just so gross, like an attempt to be faux progressive by shipping Nani off to college. Like I am Team Women in STEM - but, this is also playing into the fucked up history of indigenous people having their children removed by the state for bullshit and racist reasons. Especially when ICWA is not something 47 gives a rats ass about.
Also, if they really had to have Nani go to college, the University of Hawaii has one of the best marine biology programs in the world because of natural geography. Nani and Lilo could have stayed together, and just gotten a little help from the neighbor / relative.....

They also changed David from a cool surfer dude, to a nervous wreck, and Cobra Bubbles from an imposing and intimidating MIB with a history with the galactic president, to just some random MIB that doesn't seem to understand anything that's happening.
At least Bronze Age Disney (The Black Cauldron, Pete’s Dragon, and The Rescuers era) were original. People can hate on Black Cauldron all they want, but it had a style.
These remakes are colorless and lifeless, and excise the original themes and messages of the originals.
Just the backgrounds alone on the animated Lilo and Stitch are art - they mixed salt in their watercolor to create beautiful effects.
I’m also so done with the 3D “everyone has the same face” syndrome and lack of aesthetic creativity. IMHO, that sequence with Maui’s tattoos in Moana is the most spirit they’ve shown in a decade.
The part that really pisses me off is that I have heard people say that L&S is the "best of the live action remakes," and having seen Lion King and Aladdin, I can't actually say they're wrong!"

Totally just misread that as J lo and stitch.
I haven't seen the movie, but her getting treatment is not any indication that it was or was not payed for and I sincerely doubt they spoke about the financial repercussions of receiving care in this kind of movie or what sort of programs or benefits might offset some or all of the cost.
Did somebody with accounting at the hospital enter the room and say "your treatment is all covered, no problems" and everybody clapped and cheered? Or does the mere mention of a hospital send you into a flying rage?
There's a story line about how her sister/guardian has to do 3 things by the end of the week - including getting health insurance - or she'll lose custody. Lilo almost drowns before her guardian gets health insurance and gets taken to the hospital. The social worker says that the state will cover the bill, if the sister gives up custody.
In the future, you should probably watch the movie before commenting - especially when you make an intentionally inflammatory comment about someone "flying into a fit of rage" at the mere mention of a hospital.
Thank you for adding that context. All children in the state's custody are automatically enrolled in an approved for Medicaid in the state of Hawaii, which covers up to 10 days before the application was submitted or up to 3 months before the application for those requesting long term care.
So the movie is 100% accurate with the information you've provided.

You see where thats the problem right? Why should kids be in the states custody? Wouldn't it be nice for them to just..... get it?
And don't say we can't. Plenty of other countries do it just fine.
We're discussing whether or not the scene in Lilo and Stitch live action is realistic. If people had listened to me and voted for Harris then they wouldn't be actively gutting what little medical coverage we have as we speak. If enough people voted blue we would have universal healthcare over a decade ago.
