I've been working on Birdbrain here for so long now. It's all reclaim copper wire and pipe as well as carved deer antler. The heart is made from a local Jasper stone.

It's back in the drawer right now. I'm on to something else.

big fat zero art

3D Printed a Ghost Papa V mask to wear at the Skeletour!

Hey guys! First post here. I hope the movie link works.

I am a Ghost music fan. I’m printing myself, and my Nameless Ghoul friends, masks for the upcoming Summer 2025 Skeleta Skeletour.

This is a prototype mask before I start messing with the settings to custom fit everyone’s heads.

Mask Printed on an Adventurer 5M Pro with a 0.4 nozzle. Filament is PLA Kingroon Green/Blue/Red. Layer height is 0.2. Took about 2.5 hours or so—I print slower than the printer is probably capable. Spliced with Orcaslicer.

SLT file from creator EEKSEYE Papa Emeritus V Mask

Hope to post some of my other creations soon. :)

I made a crate for puppy! He keeps outgrowing the ones we bought, so I made a large one out of his playpen panels that should be big enough until he's fully grown.

The floor is a sheet of plywood. I put vinyl wrap on it for waterproofing (turns out it's too fragile, by the time I made the rest I made a couple of tears).

For the top, I made a lip out of PSE wood (I think 25mm), to give more rigidity and allow fitting a hinged top.

Cabin hooks for the door, but they turned out to be too loose, so I added a Brenton bolt.

Puppy likes it, so overall a success!

Today I jumped back on this project that has been on pause for about a year :)
Turning cheap defective desktop speakers into a set of wireless Bluetooth stereo speakers.
Got the idea from this video from DiyPerks.

I'm trying to recycle as much as I can:
Desktop speakers were defective and given to me by family,
Bluetooth receivers are from old earbuds,
Batteries come from and old powerbank,
Charging module from old vapes (still need to figure out a few things about them, not sure I'll end up using those).
The only thing I bought so far are amps for the audio output tu the speakers.

Any input or advice is welcome :)

I'll keep you updated with more details if anyone is interested

Do progress updates, or even ideation posts, fit this community?

Motivations:

  • I don't ton of free time, which means when I finally finish something I'm much more likely to share the end result and not get into the details that eventually got me there. IMO the details, especially the failures along the way, are a lot more interesting than just the result and provide more opportunity for teaching/learning
  • Big projects can be daunting. Talking about the journey will help others be more willing to set off on their own journey

It's a quickie, but I think it turned out cute! My friend recently got a Hartford Whalers jersey and when I saw this little friend I couldn't help but make him into a little 3D model! I hope you all enjoy!

Been playing around with a little cnc mill I got for Christmas. I think these came out cute!

We’ve written a detective story and I'm wondering if anybody likes it. It’s kind of a detective story that “tells itself”.

https://www.loomers.world/derek/

You’re detective Derek Maker and you have to extract a confession by interrogating the suspects of an art heist.

We worked hard on writing the script (it's not AI generated!) and we programmed an AI to play out the other characters.

Solving it seems pretty difficult, because so far nobody's come close to cracking it!

Can you solve it? And do you think it's any good?

This is known as a Colpitts oscillator and I soldered this up last night after dinner. To my surprise it worked on the first try! With the component values I used it oscillates between 0.7-2.8V at a frequency of 1.28 MHz.

Hey everyone. I was the Director of Video Production for the Gravel Institute until it folded back in 2022.

Several Gravel Institute colleagues and I have been hard at work developing a new series of videos with Jacobin Magazine, and our first new video has released today, featuring OG Gravel presenter and brilliant historian Matt Karp.

Things are pretty terrible in America (and the world at large), but they don't have to be.

I know this sub isn't really a video-creator sub, much less a political one, but seeing as I literally made this video, I decided to share.

Recently dismantled a TV and its backlighting consisted of thin cfl tubes. This gave me the material to try something I've been curious about for a while! I sealed some yeast in a little section of tubing for a friend's birthday (his last name is Baker). Kind of a shitty gift as i doubt it would survive as a keychain but I had fun making it (and its failed predecessors). Here are the other attempts, from left to right: pepper, red and blue food coloring, yeast

Plug one side of the cable on the left of the box, the other side on the right, press the button and whichever light doesn't come on means that part of the cable is faulty. I learned a lot from my bad decisions :)

Tomorrow at work we have an event where everyone will bring a little thing and randomly give it away to someone else. I wanted to make something with wood and ended up with this little mushroom island.

I made this a few years ago and still use it regularly! The "spoon" side fills up with 1 portion of rice and the hole in the handle can fit 1 portion of spaghetti. What do you think?

Edit: sorry about the double post.. I thought I had backed out and lost the first one so I posted this one, and I just noticed the first one went up

Made this out of a plastic bottle after seeing a YouTube video (can't give credit unfortunately as I can't find it anymore).

You can make it into any shape that the bottle will fit around (and can't be much smaller than the bottle since it will only shrink so much).

I used a piece of wood as template, cut the top of the bottle, put it around the piece of wood and shrank it with a heat gun. I then cut off the excess and shaped the closing mechanism.

It took a few tries to get it right but I've since used the technique to make containers/protections for several objects and I'm very happy with the results!

If you want to try this, be aware that the tightest you shrink the bottle around the template, the hardest it will be getting it out! I suggest making the template in atleast 2 pieces, this helped me a lot. (In this example I first pulled out the small wooden tab with pliers, and once out the bigger one came out easily).

Had nearly all the parts lying around, so I put this thing together.

I wanted to add stereo speakers, but it's hard to find good wiring diagrams for such a niche thing. So, mono for now.

The motherboard has a bad cartridge slot. So I designed and printed a custom speaker holder that fits into the cartridge slot. All pressure fitted, no glue.

Everything works so far. Just waiting for a new shoulder button/SD slot cable, so I can finish it up and load up some GBA games. :)

And pliers and Dremel tool of course, but yeah this safety guard mod totally keeps you from cutting your nails too deep!

Edit: You'll probably need to zoom in on the lower clipper blade to see the guard addition.
