This article is written so your grandma reposts it to her Facebook page. It’s all right wing pearl clutching:

“McHugh said these extra security measures to prevent thefts will only result in costs getting passed down to shoppers, which would make groceries even more expensive.”

Grocery prices are up because teenagers made some posters!

Theft is up? Raise prices to compensate.

Increased headwind on distribution trucks? Raise prices to compensate.

Mars is in retrograde? Raise prices to compensate.

Supply stabilized and reduced our costs on goods? Raise prices to compensate.

Its not exactly a threat if you're going to do it anyway!

People stealing food because the cost of living is high? Raise prices to compensate.

People stealing food because the cost of living is even higher? Raise prices to compensate.

People stealing food because the cost of living is too high? Raise prices to compensate.

People stealing food because the cost of living is so high it becomes prohibitive to production? Raise prices to compensate.

Why are young people not willing to work these days?

This is how essex county was killing bus rideeship before. Rather than build additional stops and routes where people neeses to get to, they would complain ridership was low and raise ticket prices, which lowered ridership more, so they had to charge higher ticket prices..and so on

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago

"Steal from us and we'll raise prices!"

The class war continues. Fuck them.

Yeah these mf-ers drank the No Name Cool Aid

"It doesn’t really make sense to me. I don’t understand what the motive is behind that. Why would anyone want to steal?” said Othman Ali, a regular shopper at Superstore.

Idk Othman, why don't you ask your thief bestie Galen

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Not going to steal, but definitely will boycott for the month of May.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah. Don’t break the law to make a point as you only put yourself at risk. Instead show else and vote with your dollar.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For this particular case, sure, stealing is pretty stupid.

Breaking the law to make a point is a very important thing though. Most protestors are breaking some sort of law, and I frequently believe that protesting is the right action to take despite the personal risk in those situations.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Learn and obey the rules very well so you will know how to break them properly.

Bro they sell food... it's not like you can just decide not to buy it and a lot of people don't live in the middle of a giant city and have no choice when it comes to the grocery store they have to use.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I switched to Longo's which are locally owned and actually I save money. I also started going to the local international grocery which is quite large for several things. At least I'm supporting local.

Edit: didn't know Longo's is now owned by Sobeys, so it's time for the local Polish grocery store too.

If only there was another grocery store than Maxi that sold okay quality stuff at discount prices around here. I’ve got a farmers market and a local grocery store where veggies get down to an interesting price in season, but otherwise I basically have to choose between Maxi, Walmart, or pay considerably more at IGA or Metro - with the wife, dog and two kids, it approaches a hundred more for comparable groceries at the latter. Can’t say I find giving my money to Sobeys or Metro any more attractive either…

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

IGA or Metro

~~Which are both Loblaws brands anyways.~~

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hmm I’m not seeing them in there? Pretty sure Metro is its own thing (which owns Jean Coutu, Brunet, Super C, etc), and IGA is Sobeys.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yup, guess I was too tired to be commenting.

  1. Absolutely understand it. Theyre more expensive than Whole Foods now.
  2. May 12th is definitely not the day to steal from them.
[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They are likely to have increased protection that day

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No I mean let's start tonight haha.

Exactly.

Edit: Although, to be honest they probably are working on increased security now.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'll have to Iook into shoplifting tips then. I'm a simple woman, I'd be happy if I could top up my teabag stash, some bread yeast and flour, some nice morning granola, and a good sized bottle of olive oil and roasted red peppers.

JNCOs ot only fashionable, also helps with liberating greedily priced groceries.

Here's a tip:

The carts have false alarms a lot, so if it's empty, it usually just gets unlocked with no check. Empty cart as a diversion because you decided "against buying anything"

Technically true

The trick is to do it on the 11th

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Silly me, here I've been stealing from Loblaws every time I enter one of their stores!

Shop local, shoplift mega-corps

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Where do you shop local? I think the public lost when they let down mom and pop shops in favor of these megacorps. They wouldn't have had the leverage to jack up price gouging and inflation so much otherwise.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

See if there's a farmer's market in your area. Many places have one on weekends, at least.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I go to the local international grocery store a lot, it's actually spectacular, and there's also the Polish grocery chain in my city which is quite good.

Shoppers - Box of triscuts = $5.19 Superstore - Box of triscuts = $1.97

The fuck is that shit about.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same company as well, so really just a fuck you for shopping at the pharmacy.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Basically taking advantage of little ol' ladies wanting to save a stop.

Where I am there's a shoppers on one side of the complex and a no frills on the other, it's insane to find something that's half the price not more than 50m away.

Fuck Galen, nationalization is the only option

Mr.Garison had the right idea for dealing with troublesome Canadians.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In some urban places you can walk to the Shoppers but need to drive to the No Frills/superstore/zerhs etc. So also fuck you for walking.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be fair, if you're grocery shopping at Shoppers you probably have more money than brains.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Or you're a little ol' lady who needs her meds but doesn't have the energy to walk the extra few blocks to the actual grocery store.

I plan on going in on that day with pockets stuffed with random wrapping paper and other non-grocery things from home, and sue them for harassment if they try to search me.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Seize the means of groceries. You have only your hunger to lose.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I live in an area with numerous grocery stores around and it always amazes me how often the Loblaw's parking lot is PACKED despite their absurd prices and the security measures treating customers like escaped convicts.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Same. and we have to independently owned grocers within 1 block of Loblaws, where stuff is way cheeper, and an Indian grocer a few KM away where staple foods are half price of loblaws. But everyday Loblaws is full of people. I think that is the problem with Camadians, they complain but too complacent to change behaviour.

thank you for promoting the event, op and ctv

“It doesn’t really make sense to me. I don’t understand what the motive is behind that. Why would anyone want to steal?” said Othman Ali, a regular shopper at Superstore.

Why not? They steal from us through price gouging, and their employees through wage theft. Why is that okay, Othman?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Suck it Galen.
