The Boys has a lot of super creepy right-wingers who idolize the fascist characters in the show, totally oblivious that the show is making fun of them and those characters.

It's super weird that they're that dumb, but combined with that is just how weird and disturbing they are as people because of that.

[–] [email protected] 54 points 7 months ago (4 children)

That's actually incredible. It was extremely obvious they were taking the piss out of the right... Kind of alarming if that wasn't picked up on by some

These are the same folk who think the Colbert Report wasn't satire or get upset that wolfenstein's Twitter account promoted a new game about killing Nazis (all the wolfenstein games are about killing nazis).

"I loved Rage Against The Machine until they went woke"

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

These idiots didn't even say "woke", they said "political". They've never processed any part of Rage lyrics other than "fuck you, won't do what you told me".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I don't understand? Why did ratm have to get political?, why couldn't they just stick to their music?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

If you really suck, the games are about Nazis killing this one guy

Being oblivious to reality is a feature of Republicanism.

Take rights away from 50% of the population, be surprised that the vast majority of women don't like rights being taken away.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No, they really don't see it. And they instead idolize Homelander and think he's the one that's correct in the show and doing what's right and what they want to do.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I have literally never seen anyone idolize homelander. This is like Marilyn Manson getting his ribs removed so he could suck his own dick: often repeated, never substantiated

As a matter of fact, satire does not work. Fascists will idolize the fascists in satire, always. It feels like satire only works with people who already have an education about the dangers of fascism.

In the broken mind of a fascist, satire is actually a kind of utopia. It's how the world is supposed to be in their twisted ideals.

One day we'll have a movie that starts with a warning like:

This movie is satire. If you actually relate to and agree with the ideas presented in this film, please seek professional help.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Unfortunately it would get paid as much attention as the FBI warnings about piracy being illegal.

Oh yes my ideal woman should breastfeed a fully grown lab experiment

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I feel like the only satire that works is full blown, overt caricature, like the WW2 propaganda cartoons

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

That's.. Not satire

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Its the same reason they like to play Born in the USA all the time.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Star Trek has a similar subset of fans that are all like "When did Star Trek get all woke? More pew pew!"

Try 1966

Sorry, but this is not at all obvious.... especially to right wingers.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

I mean it's not like they outright say "HEY RIGHT WINGERS, YOU ARE DUMB" but I'd argue it's pretty damn obvious.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It's a show about superheroes masquerading as icons of peace while behind closed doors they're rapists, murderers, liars, and just all around pieces of shit.

Sounds a lot like most fascist ideologies and right wing politics.

The irony is in there. Somewhere. Maybe.

Without reading the article, they wanted her breast milk, didn't they.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 7 months ago

Article doesn't say but there is a good chance by the context.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That seems to be it indeed

[–] [email protected] 25 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Holy fucking lol what

^i have never watched this show and have no context at all for this information^

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

the whole shows premise is to make you go "Holy fucking lol what" pretty much when they push new extremes every episods

but despite that its actually very good

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

It is very good, but they crossed the line for me, and I stopped watching. I'm not sure when it was crossed. I think it was s03e01 when they were running around inside of a human asshole, and then turned a person into little meaty bits all over the room. But I finished the season somehow. When another season was announced, I decided not to watch it. I do enjoy the show, but I don't enjoy feeling like my eyes and brain have been violated every other episode.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

they were running around inside a human penis yes .

somehow the deep making out with a squid was worse for me

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

Well, shit, why did I not watch that sooner? Seems I have some catching up to do.

unzips

[–] Taiatari 6 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I only ever saw the first episode and hated the guy whose girlfriend is run over. The whole character rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn't care for him at all despite the show trying to make me care. The star light lady that was the only thing that got me, where I was like I hope she will be fine. But it wasn't enough for me to commit to watching more.

The main antagonist has mommy issues and a brest milk fetish.

Something their mothers never gave them, from an organ they’ve never seen in person.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

I suggest we begin referring to Y'all Quesa as "soap flakes".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Well that's just weird

Quick note that I see the article is from PinkNews, who have recently had a large number of former staff come out against their leadership for transphobia, ableism, racism, misogyny, and an incredibly toxic workplace culture. This includes recordings of Cohen saying stuff that frankly promotes this sort of fan behaviour.
