President-elect Donald Trump was handed an unconditional discharge sentence after he was convicted of falsifying business records to coverup a past affair with an adult film star, and many critics are crying foul.

There's two justice systems - one for the rich, and one for the poor!

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 46 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

There's no justice system, only a legal system.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The police believe that they have become a vigilante group.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Vigilante justice you say....

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 months ago

There's no justice system. There is a legal system...

There's a great part in Clavell's Nobel House, set in 1960s Hong Kong, where a Chinese man is raging against the British system of justice.

"Why should the rich and poor be treated the same?! Why else would I strive to be rich?!"

Something to think on.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's a really good book.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Loved all his work except Gai Jin and couldn't finish Whirlwind. No idea why those didn't click, tried reading them several times.

But goddamn, Shogun to Tai Pan to Nobel House was a fucking blast! King Rat is a wild trip as well.

Turns out there’s just one for the poor!

The judge didn't want to get drone stiked, I don't blame him. Still might though

Lol more like "heart attack" (aka: poisoning)

Or maybe out of a window, depending how "putin-style" they want to make it.

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

You mean accidentally shot himself in the back of the head and 2 in the chest whilst throwing himself out a window

Are there any cases of the US poisoning people in assassinations? Im actually curious about that. Nothing comes to mind. Missiles are more thier style.

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

All cases of drone strikes I know are outside of the US. I don't know what types of assassinations they do in the US.

The CIA supposedly had a "heart attack gun" that would poison you and the official cause would be a heart attack. I don't think there has been a case that were later revealed to be a poisoning.

And they could also crash your car and make it look like an accident. Like this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hastings_(journalist)#Controversy_over_alleged_foul_play

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

I don’t know what types of assassinations they do in the US.

In shooty bang bang freedom land? It's the same kind we give to kindergartners. Just ask MLKJr or JFK or RFK or...

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

Wtf, don't make excuses for the fucker. This isn't North Korea, he wasn't afraid he's just a shill.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

I do. If you can't do your job, recuse yourself.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 35 points 2 months ago

Let this be a LESSON to all you AMERICANS! If you want to get away with ANY crime Scot Free ALL you have to do is Threaten the Life of the Judge's Family!

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 21 points 2 months ago

With blatant open corruption on the Supreme Court, the lack of justice in this country became apparent. Hell, they sanctioned a Federal Judge who had the balls to complain. I expected a wrist slap. Trump didn't even get that.

[–] So_zetta_slowpoke@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

At least I can rest easy knowing that legal experts THRASHED it.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i don’t know about you but i would rest easier if i knew they also slammed it

[–] So_zetta_slowpoke@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Somebody ought to write a strongly worded thought or prayer.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Jesus SLAMMED with prayers.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 2 months ago

☝️ they treated me so unfairly 👐

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

They don’t want to set a precedent of holding Presidents (or any politician) accountable for crimes. They’re sanctioning the ICC for that as we speak.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 12 points 2 months ago

It's over.

They've done it. They have carte blanche to commit crimes, not only without consequence, but with reward. When the legal system fails, the extralegal system is the only alternative.
