What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

So they’re admitting that Trump, a private citizen, interfered with US foreign policy, which is yet another crime.

Just like when Nixon sabotaged the Paris peace talks, or when Reagan betrayed the American hostages in Iran.

I would like to remind people this conflict is decades and decades old, it's not a democrat thing, or republican thing. America has supported this genocide for over 50 years. The democrats and republicans of now will surely, if unfortunately, continue.

While true, I'm over 50 and have never seen such mechanized destruction in my lifetime. And yes, now I'm woke to the fact that my country has supported this shit the whole time.

People need to remember Netanyahu wants Trump in power, so is going to make decisions that are good optics for Trump when he can. He similarly made decisions that are bad optics for Biden on purpose. While Biden did himself no favors, never forget Netanyahu is the one who put him in that position.

It's so odd that the time line for this surge of fighting happened right through the election cycle. You know, it's almost like if you were to coordinate political strategies with your allies you could find advantageous opportunities that serve each other to the disadvantage of your opponents. Except, that could never happen, right? Right? As if what appeared to be genocide was just sloppy blitzkrieg trying to cause as much damage as possible in a limited time frame.

Ok, I'll shut up now, I wouldn't want people to think those with unlimited resources are capable of high level strategic warfare.

Henry Kissinger did something similar to delay the end of the Vietnam war, in order to get Nixon elected.

...are we counting "no Palestinians left" as the end of the genocide? 😬

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Well hey, one of the reasons one might stop a genocide is because it’s been accomplished. So they may end up being technically correct on the first part.

The fact that some people voted for a basically open fascist because of something happening outside of their country is fucking wild

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I just hate when they say one imperialist colonizer is bad (Israel) yet another good (Russia). Fucking hypocrites don't actually care about the suffering - just the political wedge they can use.

I haven't ever even broached Tibet because I don't think I could stomach witnessing the ensuing trainwreck of logic.

It's just so incredibly intellectually disingenuous. I got in it with one at one point (big mistake on my part) saying that no country or system is perfect, and a meaningful indicator evidencing critical thought is the capacity to criticize your own system. What, in their mind, were the top issues with China?

  1. Too much freedom in the market.
  2. Doesn't project it's system outside it's border enough.

Ok. I'm talking to a rational actor. Lol.

I've had so many CCP bootlickers send me so many headlines about how much people in China claim to love the CCP. Tankies pretend they don't understand that a 99% approval rating is less indicative of a populace that adores their government, and more indicative of a populace afraid to criticize it.

Part of what got me banned over there was pointing out that Adolf Hitler got 99.3% of the votes in his last election, and asking whether they reckon that was because he was just such a great leader

On the incredibly infinitesimally insignificantly microscopically small chance that Trump somehow accidentally but actually stops the genocide, I won't bother looking that gift horse in the mouth. I'll just be thankful and move on to the litany of other problems.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Its the same with RFK wanting to legalise psychedelics in some way. Thats something that is in fact good, but that doesn't compensate for him being not suited for this position.

Tankies and trump supporters:

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

regressive fascist fuckface supporters and tankies all along:

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

They're not actually going to stop, the news will just stop reporting about it, because we've got distraction-in-chief on twitter again daring North Korea to nuke us.

I remember 2017.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Are they still pretending they don’t support him? I thought for sure they’d all have given that ruse up the moment he won.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Nah, they can go their entire lives pretending not to be dictator simps. When it comes to tankies, it was never about the communism and always about the tanks treading over the plebs.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

And then there is the rest of the Fediverse thinking this squabble between. World and. Ml is fucking retarded

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 months ago (10 children)

*stupid, please avoid ableism when you can.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Every single word which has been used to refer to a mentally disabled person will, eventually, become a slur.

"Idiot" and "moron" used to be technical medical terms. There actually used to be a whole spectrum, with "idiot" being a pretty profound level of disability, meaning that someone's mental age was around two years old or younger.

"Retarded" was a new invention, to introduce a new term which didn't overlap with the slurs for a non-disabled person who was being stupid. Eventually, it came to be used as a slur, at which point we couldn't used it for actually disabled people anymore. This cycle will repeat, I think, without end.

Probably the best thing to do is use terms which are too cumbersome to easily become slurs. "Mentally disabled" is one.

Real talk, how is stupid any less ableist than retard? Same meaning, same origin. It's like telling people to stop calling black people n-words, call them coons instead. Pretty silly imo!

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 months ago

Stupid is the lower end of normal intelligence variation, retarded implies a developmental or other condition outside of the normal variation.

Stupid doesn't refer to a disability, retarded does. That's how stupid is less ableist.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't know if I completely agree with the R-word being now not acceptable as much as the N-word.

But I believe the reason behind it is 'stupid' is and always has been general term for anyone and always has been.

'Retard' was actually used as a medical term for a class of people that had cognitive issues outside of their control. And while a good majority of people have re-used the word to general mean 'stupid' over the years with no intention to imply said person you are saying that to actually has 'cognitive issues' outside of their control.

I believe that's why its derogatory now, but yeah.. language is always changing.

He doesn’t even have to do it. He can just lie and they’ll believe it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

I'm am "surprised" how confident they are in that prediction.
