- refuses to purchase tools that would make job easier

- plans huge upgrade of client devices first thing Monday morning rather than Friday evening

- licenses one of the least effective security tools to save money

- forces an over-reliance on Google apps despite Drive having shit search capabilities

- makes you get A+ certified even though you’ve been in the industry for many years before allowing pursuit of higher certs

- says “happy Monday” every week as if that isn’t soul-draining

- thinks we have a great culture because we declare “beer o’clock” on a Friday every few months and end early

- talks loudly in an open office when he take phone calls

- plays shitty music when he gets control of the stereo hooked to an old computer

- mandates back to office as the pan is winding down and then let’s all of management not come to the office on the first day back

- can’t understand why this angered workers

He had us replace call center switches without telling them first. Call center.

It manages that plans upgrades on Monday are a godsend unless you like working OT while having access to b-team vendor support.

My first thought when reading the OP was "Who the hell touches anything on a Friday evening? That sounds like a good way to end up working the entire weekend."

Friday upgrade: A handful of people call with problems on Monday morning.

Monday upgrade: Everyone is angry that they can't meet deadlines (the install started when they turned on their computers).

I should have mentioned that I'm thinking of two industries with hard deadlines.

You’re on the wrong side of this one. There’s literally a “No Change Friday” mantra

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Then change it on any day of the week other than Monday morning or Friday evening.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah but everyone's angry while I'm working the hours I wanted to work. Their poor planning is not my emergency.

Bro, I worked for a company that literally offered us and non-technical staff a coding boot camp. I asked if I could be promoted if I did the boot camp since they were offering it to people a level above me. I already knew everything in the boot camp, as did everyone I worked with. They refused. But, then they also laid my team and I off a month later and some how kept all the people that did the boot camp. It made no damn sense. It’s like the higher ups had no idea what a boot camp was, but thought it would be cutting edge and innovative if it was offered. They were clueless. Meanwhile, they cut everyone with those skills.

It would be like a construction company replacing a team of carpenters with some people who took a weekend woodworking course.

It takes a special kind of clueless to think they would be remotely equivalent.

  • talks loudly in an open office when he take phone calls

That one's my least favorite. Might as well just grab me by the shoulders and shout your conversation in my face for how little work I'm getting done.

Getting less programmer_humor and more "I didn't get the promo" angry vibe from this.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also a lot of “works for a small company” vibes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But try working for a big company. Most of these complaints aren’t your “IT Manager”s fault.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

You lot had some shite managers. All of mine have been great. Well... almost all of mine...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

if halloween falls on a friday is it just a hawaian shirt?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

I work for a school who specialises in IT. Every introduction and every graduation we have the running gag that we offer free pizza for all attending students (some other events we do this as well).

@[email protected] is this @[email protected] your alt? Whyre you two posting the exact same content 😭

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Haha no, I'm certainly not a tankie lmaooo

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

You sure like throwing around the tankie term a lot :/

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yea, "authoritarianism praiser" is too unwieldy, maybe I could balance it out with "authoritarianist"?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe you should balance it out with a more nuanced take. Not everyone who is left of a liberal is pro dictator. Tankie is typically a term liberals who doesn’t understand leftisms use to group it all together with a derogatory meaning.

There are certainly brain dead bootlicking marxists or MLM’s but someone who thinks a communist or ML utopian society is possible is not a tankie.

I would say a tankie is more authoritarian apologist, but it is more meaningless than anything.

Idk to expect a serious reply though ;)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie

Tankie is a pejorative label generally applied to authoritarian communists, especially those who support acts of repression by such regimes, their allies, or deny the occurrence of the events thereof.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes but you apply it freely to anyone who is left of liberal… not my or the wiki definition.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I apply it where it's justified, Yogthos is infamous for it, along with davel and head honcho themself dessalines

.ml is labeled a tankie instance because dessalines and davel are admins who censor any non-tankie dissent/speech

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

What to demonstrate that you don't use the Wikipedia definition

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

The term authoritarianism is utterly meaningless because all governments rely on coercion to maintain their authority. The state is fundamentally an instrument that’s used by the ruling class to maintain its dominance. The whole notion that political systems can be neatly categorized into authoritarian or democratic binaries is deeply infantile.

The reality is that every government derives its authority from its monopoly on legal violence. The ability to enforce laws, suppress dissent, and maintain order is derived from control over police, military, and judicial systems. Whether a government is labelled authoritarian or democratic, the fundamental basis of its power lies here. Therefore, the only meaningful questions to ask are which class interests it represents, and to what extent can it be held accountable to them.

What ultimately matters is which class controls the institutions of state violence. In capitalist democracies, the government represent the interests of the economic elites who fund political campaigns, own media outlets, and control key industries. Western public lacks the mechanisms necessary to hold the government to account, and the ruling class is disconnected from the broader population. That’s precisely what’s driving political discontent all across western sphere today. Meanwhile, in so-called authoritarian regimes, the ruling party serves the working class as seen in countries like China, Cuba, or Vietnam. Hence why there is widespread public trust in these government and they enjoy broad support from the masses.

Anybody who uses the term authoritarian can be safely dismissed.

Why don’t the two of you get a nice bottle of brut cuvée, some water based lubricant, a motel room by the beach, and then just see where the evening takes you?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

The most dronie thing I've seen today.
