If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Nature always provides!
I'm looking forward to the day when an unsuspecting DoorDash drone full of Paella wanders into my home.
Mmm...seafood of unknown origin... 🤤
Well, when you put it that way...
That's actually a pretty amazing photo, especially considering that the owl could just as easily get hungry and eat the squirrel neighbor..
She looks to be kindly telling the squirrel he's at the wrong hole and he best be moving along.
That's the face they make when they hiss at me to keep my distance at least. 😅
The squirrels can actually be a danger to owls as well though, so it's not as one sided as it may look. Squirrels will kill chicks or eat eggs, or even injure some smaller owls.
Huh, very interesting, I didn't know that.
The owl doesn't have the element of surprise, and is in an unfavorable position to attack the squirrel. The squirrel would easily run away
Another interesting thing is with owl digestion, since they swallow prey whole, they have to expel a pellet to rid their stomach of the leftover solids from previous meals. If she's full right now, she won't be able to eat it anyway.
Owls will also cache food for nesting season so there is a ready supply for the babies and momma herself, since she can't leave the nest to hunt. So hopefully she has a nice, full belly right now and doesn't need to be bothered with making a snack of the squirrel.
If Mr. Owl sees him though, he may end up in the pantry. His job is to keep their reserves well stocked!
Owl: I don't remember ordering delivery.
"Honey, did you order room service again?"
Food delivery right to your door!
But maybe these squirrels are interested in eating the eggs of this owls nest as well.
It does happen.
"Not today, squirrel!"
Squirrel nutkin at it again, I see
Ha! True!
Squirrel: HI NEIGHBOR Owl: And just hoo the fuck are you?
Have you heard about The Great Squirrel, who fed 100 squirrels with just 5 seeds and 2 acorns?!
Said the very enthusiastic squirrel, moments before being clamped in the talons of the suddenly very interested owl. "And just how many owls do you think THIS squirrel can feed?"
😆
Ahh, I see my UberEats has arrived!
Dammit. You got to my Doordash joke before I did.
I was shocked, SHOCKED(!), that I didn’t see one already in the comments. Really,
…I felt morally obligated.
The early bird gets the worm... or the squirrel, if it comes into your burrow.
"I've heard they were testing autonomous food delivery drones...but no one told me they were edible too!"
Low waste and environmentally friendly!
Hmmm... Grub Stump... Grub Trunk... there's gotta be something there... 🤔
