A 27-year-old man was killed Monday after opening fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, authorities said.

Federal agents returned fire at the man, who had an assault rifle and was carrying a utility vest, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters Monday morning.

Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda.

Law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition. Rodriguez said the man’s motive is currently unknown.

One officer was injured in the shooting. Rodriguez said it was unclear if the injury was from shrapnel or a bullet.

I feel like just walking up to the base and shooting at fascists wasn't a well thought out plan, but points for effort.

Maybe someone will use a bomb or find out where they sleep next time.

Humans are animals of habit and routine. Also, chemistry is a fascinating field AND there's a sort of neat trick usable that's a good reason not to toss out your unused Styrofoam! Do with this information what you will....

[–] [email protected] 1 points 36 minutes ago

Modern, American, styrofoam doesn't do that

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Where's all the people complaining about the lack of people trying to start stuff with feds?

Almost like fighting the way they want to be fought doesn't accomplish Jack and shit.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

This tracks exactly with what I say; one person alone can’t do shit.

I bet the story would’ve been quite different had there been 10-20 heroes instead of one.

If you're last name is "Rodriguez" and you are still working for Border Patrol, you're a traitor.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 hour ago

Oh man, you'd be surprised how many Latino white supremacists Nazis there are out there.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If you're ~~last name is "Rodriguez" and you are still~~ working for Border Patrol, you're a traitor.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 hours ago

Most are surprised that a whole lotta border patrol are Hispanic.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Just an FYI it's more effective to target ICE when they are trying to kidnap people.

Try to find reports from your local community about ICE lurking around. They will have way less security than back at base.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 hour ago

Also, if you have that much clarity of thought you probably should look at getting organized locally. Whatever rage you're feeling; you are not alone.

opening fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility ... motive is currently unknown.

Man shoots nazis, motive unknown 🤔

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Right? Remember when "because they were fucking Nazis" would have been the presumed motive?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 hours ago

Great re-use of this comic.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Going by recent history?

Probably for not nazi-ing hard enough.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I dunno, ICE is giving a lot of motivate for people to target them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 hour ago

Yeah. It really doesn't have to be political brain rot anymore.

Maybe it's not in this case...we'll see. But we're going to have cases of complete normies going "nothing left to lose" after their loved ones or friends are taken/killed by ICE.

Imagine finding out your partner/kids were taken from their job/school. You can't. I can't. There is no law or order that matters to people when the "law and order" are the ones doing it.

And at some point, hopefully, we all realize that those people are the sane ones. The people standing by and watching it happen well...

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

For anyone else curious about the relationship to ICE, here is what I found on Wikipedia, with each → pointing to a parent agency:

US Border Patrol → US Customs and Border Protection → US Department of Homeland Security

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) → US Department of Homeland Security

Hopefully one day we can build a statue of him.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Wasnt there just another post about AOC being critical of ICE and the top comment is about going out and buying a firearm?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 hour ago

Context? Like as a threat to AOC or to ICE?

Idiot. What harm did he expect to do alone? Just plain idiot.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

America makes suicide killers… did you think it was only going to happen in the other countries they fuck over? America basically used the same tactics that they use in other countries to throw this coup in America. They know what they are doing. The have experience with all this already.

crying out how bad it is accomplishes nothing… they already know… they don’t care… people saying how bad it is isn’t going to change anything. People need to understand war, crime, and heartlessness if they want to go against this. You’re not going to overcome them by being nice.

[–] [email protected] 47 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Basically every "group plot" I can think of in the last 20 years (regardless of ideology or motive) has been broken up by one or more undercovers or informants before they can do anything.

Maybe his methodology was dumb but reaching out to the ether for partners in crime is dumber.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 10 hours ago (3 children)

Lone Wolf type attacks do have a much lower chance of being discovered, but that doesn't change that just running at a group of armed agents is dumb. Planting a bomb or sniping them at a distance seems like something with a higher chance of success. Or even a suicide vest, since surviving certainly wasn't a goal for the guy.

The symbolism is noteworthy.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Maybe his plan was to be killed, and to try and take out some people on his way. At least his target wasn’t a school.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 hours ago

People have a limit.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 hours ago

Suicide by cop.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 hours ago

I’ve been waiting for a big false flag attack to be used as an excuse to ramp things up and possibly declare martial law.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 hours ago (7 children)

This is sad. It sucks. You want to say that violence isn't the answer, but it's easy to see how people hit their breaking point. ICE agents kidnapping people is horrible. McAllen is poor. The people who work in that ICE facility are likely just happy to have a job with benefits that feeds their families.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

"I was just doing my job" didn't work at Nuremberg, and it shouldn't work here. That's now how committing crimes against humanity works.

Every single person working at these places (or involved in the trafficking of people to foreign prisons) needs to be held to account, just like they did with the Nazis.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 hours ago

You had me till the last sentence.

The people who work in that ICE facility are likely just happy to have a job with benefits that feeds their families.

Find a fucking different job

[–] [email protected] 20 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

My dude. We are well past the point where it is ok to say " Im just doing my job" in the midst of fascism. No it is literally not okay to work for ICE (gestapo) and kidnap people, to support your family. Hell no.

[–] [email protected] 68 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Nah. Fuck them.
You don't say that about the IDF soldiers dropping the bombs on the hospital. "They just wanted to pay their rent - they didn't ask to kill orphans" Get the fuck outta here.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

You don’t opt in to the IDF, it’s required of all 18 year old Israelis. No one is required to join ICE.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Sort of. There are forms of alternative service. Or you could just go to jail instead.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 hours ago

There are proactive steps that separate a forced conscript and a bomb dropper.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 10 hours ago

That's not just a job though. It's a Nazi job. You are required to treat people like animals. If you qualify for that job you are disqualified for life.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 hours ago

This is sad. It sucks. You want to say that violence isn’t the answer, but it’s easy to see how people hit their breaking point. Schutzstaffel agents kidnapping people is horrible. Oświęcim is poor. The people who work in that transient worker camp are likely just happy to have a job with benefits that feeds their families.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Judging by your downvotes, it looks like many people here neither know nor care that there is a world of difference between Border Patrol and ICE.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

People down voted because they said the people working at these facilities are "just doing their job".

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

I agree, probably some people did downvote because of the “just working” remark. It also appears that many downvotes are an emotional reaction to feeling empathy for anyone associated with ICE. The problem here is twofold:

  1. The McAllen station isn’t ICE, and commenters here don’t seem to understand - or won’t stop feeling outrage long enough to learn - that the objectives, the methods, and the general principles between ICE and Border Patrol are vastly different. It’s like insisting that Grand Canyon and Everglades are identical because they’re both governed under the national parks system.

  2. Seeing the fediverse slide into Reddit hive mind is cringey. People here used to be more open to respectful discussion. A mention of potential humanity in a reviled federal department wouldn’t have been brigaded. On that note, I appreciate your response.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They serve different strategic functions but they are of very similar ideation. That being racist cruelty, and keeping America white.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago

Perfect example of my point.
