Then he gets a 100k hospital bill later.

[–] [email protected] 113 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Only 75k since he didn't have to take an ambulance

[–] [email protected] 49 points 6 months ago

Long-term, I honestly don’t know whether this is the cheaper option. DUIs make insurance pricy.

Anywhere else the cop would ask why tf didn't you just take an ambulance like a normal person

[–] [email protected] 30 points 6 months ago (1 children)

In America it’s not surprising to drive while stabbed!

Can we start doing the Russia jokes but American.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 6 months ago (1 children)

In Democratic America school finishes you.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 months ago (1 children)

In Capitalists America the ambulance service rides you

In Capitalists America you aid the health care

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Maybe not so much the last one? I'd say in other countries with free healthcare "we" would aid health care through taxes. I get your joke though haha.

Do people in the states pay taxes to health care?

Hey I'll have you know that in Australia an ambulance can cost >$1000 without insurance!

The problem is so serious that they run seminars in schools telling students to not hesitate calling for ambulances, because human lives are worth more than $1000.

You're also not legally required to pay medical bills in the states.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'm not from there, but I guess you'd have to give fake information?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Nope you have to give your real info. But the worst they can do is send debt collectors after you, which you can easily ignore.

You can just ignore hospital bills, and they can't refuse treatment if you don't pay.

So don't worry about it; throw the bills in the trash, block the debt collectors' numbers, and carry on with your life. I have been doing this for over 30 years now.

Saw a guy in italy almost ram a cop car atan intersection. I think the driver was running a red light, but could have been the cop running a red. Anyhow, the driver breaks just before the cop car, and the cop on the passanger side just gesticulates his discontent but they just keep rolling on anyway. They could not be bothered.

in Italy

Just gesticulates his discontent

Wait, I think I know how that looked like.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Are you saying you want more active enforcement?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago

I'm saying I'd bet it was 🤌🤌

[–] [email protected] 31 points 6 months ago

Italian drivers are fucking insane, it was probably just Tuesday for the cop

Sounds hard to believe. Or maybe the cops in my city have less empathy.

If you were conscious but stabbed, a police officer would absolutely spend a few minutes writing a report while waiting for paramedics.

Driving while intoxicated, they might still fine you for that.

If you were brown and drunk, they'd probably arrest you.

If you were brown, drunk, and the knife was within arms reach, you'd be tased and arrested for assaulting the officer.

The point I'm trying to make: being stabbed does not stop a police officer from doing their favorite job in the world

beating innocent people.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Depends, cops also HATE fucking working if they got some where to be.

I've seen city cops in fact, let off some pretty bad drunk driving just because they don't want to deal with it.

Must have been in Europe. I'm America the cop woulda shot him. Also probably smelled the booze. Also as an American over never been drunk enough (not even when I had alcohol poisoning that one time) to think theat such legal consequences would be cheaper than a trip to the hospital.

Fun fact, hospitals routinely do tox screens. OP isn't just a bullshitter, he's a bad bullshitter lol

[–] [email protected] 25 points 6 months ago (3 children)

It seems to me that drunk driving is much more accepted in the US than in Europe.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Having lived in both - often having a half pint of 4%. lager is enough to prevent people from driving, in the US having two pints of 7.5% IPA and smoking weed wouldn't been seen as unusual before a 30 min drive home.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Eh, in my state, the legal limit is low enough (0.05% BAC) that you could be over the limit with that lager. In every other state you can have two regular drinks and be under the limit (0.08% BAC), though many states have a zero tolerance (0% BAC) if you're under 21.

Oh, and if you're a POC, the BAC limit is cut in half.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Unfortunately not everywhere in Europe..source: am Austrian and our peoples attitude to drunk driving is fucked up

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I live in bumfuck, Denmark. The amount of drunk people getting into their car is crazy. We're talking 6-10 drinks in. My wifes uncle lost his license for two years, but that was due to speeding. He got his license back, and still drunk drives. He's an asshole we only see during big family gatherings.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

So insane, how they then also see no fault in themselves. Only in the evil police who would not let them go places in piece, aaargh..

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

It definitely is. Public transportation is basically never an option and Ubers are expensive so most Americans don’t even think about those options. Then there are other problems like Americans not forcing their friends to stay the night when drunk, not having dependable social circles, and a lot of rural folk thinking that no one will be on the roads anyways. It’s a mess is what it is, haven’t even been able to stop family from doing it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago

No, in Europe this would've immediately triggered a criminal investigation.

"Someone's been stabbed and they casually drive to the hospital cuz ambulance is too expensive, this is regular day stuff lemme give them a ride" is only a normal occurance in the US and Lebanon.

It’s a greentext. The default is to assume it’s BS.
