Can someone change the shipping label and send it to Ukraine instead?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago

No they don’t need it, not like struggling to survive Israel.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (5 children)

Before anyone misunderstands my point, Israel is committing acts of genocide in Gaza and it's allies are complicit by their (in)actions.

However Israel and Ukrainian weapon deals are very different. Israel just pays for their weapons, as far as I know they do not get any financial support. Ukraine cannot afford that, so either the weapons are gifted or financed indirectly through sized assets. Morally it makes no difference imo, but economically there is a world of difference.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Completely false.

The US routinely gives Israel billions in aid. If they’re paying for US weapons, it’s with US money.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not in any instance I can recall, but please provide a source if that has been the case

Morally, Ukraine isn't committing genocide.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

I meant morally there is no difference to me wether the US sells or gifts the weapons Israel uses to bomb civilians. Ukraine and Israel are a world of difference.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

It is exactly the opposite. Ukraine gets lend leased weapons they need to pay back.

Israel receives billions in military aid budget which they then use to "buy" American weapons with.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

You're saying they're already paid for then? Even more reason to send them to Ukraine

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What uhhh, what do you think "aid" is? We give them X money and they buy Y American made weapons with it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

When was aid like that provided to Israel? I cannot recall that happening. They're buying weapons with their own money. Doesn't make it ok to sell weapons to someone committing genocide, but it is not free aid either.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Since forever.

They are not buying with their own money. Whoever told you that is lying to you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

That is certainly not true. From the article itself: "which Israel had purchased from Boeing with Israeli funds". So they do buy with their own money. But far less then I assumed.

What I missed was that the US provides aid, with the caveat that Israel has to spend it on US weapons. So they are buying from the US, but with US money.

Genocide Joe, even on his demented way out.

Dementia Don?

[–] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Joe, you idiot! Sick of my taxes going to this shit. We're all broke as it is here, and the US don't need to be participating in a fucking genocide!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

8B / 350M is only like $22 per person. Sending weapons to help Ukraine fight an oppressive nation or sending weapons to Israel to be oppressive to Palestinians isn’t really affecting your tax.

What you want is for corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes.

Edit: I don’t think it’s productive to a discussion if you downvote a comment without telling the person why. Clearly y’all don’t agree but are not willing to put across your side.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah, Lemmy doesnt do discussion very well, it feels like a bunch of 15yos who just discovered the idea of socialism/linux/veganism and its now the answer to all the worlds problems. All of them.

Any discussion about why there might be some nuance to the situation just isnt worth the ball ache.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

what I want is abolition of law

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You want anarchy? Or do I misunderstand?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Why?

What if I blow up your house with your family inside? You ok with that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

you can do that whether the law exists or not. laws don't stop that. they do, however, disproportionately punish the already marginalized classes, while serving the interests of the powerful.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I could, but the risk reward for such an action when we have lows in place prevents me from doing it. I don’t not do things simply because they’re illegal, I break many laws all the time, I don’t do certain things because the punishment isn’t worth the reward of killing your family.

If we have a system of no laws then I would be more inclined to do it as your resources to find me are negligible compared to the states resources.

Now I do agree that many laws disproportionately affect the poor in our society, but I would look for reform of the system rather than abolishing it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

what good does it do to punish you? it's doesn't get my house back

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

This is a somewhat selfish take, and although I don’t agree with a punitive justice system as I believe reform will lower the victims of crime more than punishing someone, as you should be thinking about the larger society and how me being off the streets means I can’t blow up someone else’s house. Sure it doesn’t get your house or family back, but it is better for society.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

I think a society that cages people is bad. it's a bad thing to put people in cages.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I’m going to end the discussion here. I have been countering your arguments with alternatives and adding my own thoughts. Whereas you have been saying nope not down with that, but not contributing to the discussion with what you propose or countering my points.

Have a great day and keep an eye out for me and my RPG. 😉

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye,

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I’m afraid I don’t understand. Like I understand the words but not what you’re trying to say.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You're welcome to try to keep asking the people in power to change a system that inherently benefits them. I'll choose another path.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well I’m not against violent revolution to change the system. I just don’t think anarchy will give you the world you expect.

If you think the poor and marginalised or preyed upon now, how do you imagine that would pan out if we had no laws. The most heinous people would again rise to be the most powerful, it’s just there would be no laws to mitigate the damage they could do.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

can't accumulate power in a society without hierarchy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Plenty of countries exist right now with no government and rebels have seized power.

If guns exist, then armies can exist, if armies exist then people can consolidate power.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

armies can't exist without hierarchy. as an anarchist, I seek to smash all unjust hierarchy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What are you talking about.

Suppose you get rid of whatever hierarchy you propose.

Do you not think people will still look to prey on others or control others?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (12 children)

that happens now. I'm proposing that we eliminate systems that make it worse.

I'll consider myself lucky if Biden ends up being the worst president I ever voted for... Provided we keep having elections.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

If they do, Democrats will run someone to his right. I've given up on the party ever moving left.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago (2 children)

This is why we made you step down, asshole.

I just hope he lives long enough to be thrown in prison.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Haha, by the US justice system. Good one.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Hopefully by the Hague
