Same way people think corporations pay taxes, instead of just passing them along to the consumer.

They don't care about being lied to, they just like that Orange Man hurts people they perceive as inferior and that's why they voted for him.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

and they’re willing to nobly endure the suffering, too, as long as others are being hurt

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

They'd let trump shit in their mouth of it meant a librul had to smell their breath.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

And they like that he licenses them to be just as shitty to people.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't lie, he doesn't get it either.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Or rather; he lied AND he doesn't get it either.

Like with most things he ever says or does.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd say "¿Por qué no los dos?" but that might get me abducted and kept in a concentration camp in El Salvador.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I mean, "los dos“ is exactly what I asserted. Since that's the obvious truth 🤷

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

They still don’t believe it. It will be bidens fault or Obama’s fault or Hilary child sex dungeons in pizza restaurants or

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

What's weird is that the conservative subreddit at the moment is patting themselves on the back at the moment and saying happy Easter... All whilst they've put a rapist on a pedestal

Who, in their right mind, thought other countries would pay them?

[–] [email protected] 115 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The same people who were convinced Mexico would pay for the wall. At least until it became undeniable that we were paying for it, at which point they instead claimed that they always believed we'd be the ones to pay, and that it was a necessary sacrifice. The same thing they're starting to do for this.

That's the thing - his supporters have no idea what's going on, but they don't want to lose face by admitting it, so they're constantly just pretending that whatever is happening is part of the plan, and make up whatever reasoning they have to in order to justify it. We're a country of naked emperors pretending we're wearing clothes.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Give it a few months and Mexico might actually consider paying for a wall

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

He truly was playing 4D chess all along! /s

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

I'm in Canada and me and my friends are all about building a southern wall about now.

Americans. They aren't known for being the smartest population out there.

Conservative MAGA Americans

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

There are a lot of americans who did not even vote. There are idiots like Jill Stein, Rashida Tlaib etc who enabled them.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

How smart were the opposition to them in recent times?

What is an advanced degree defined as in the context? If it's master's and up it's painting a different picture than if it was bachelor's and up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Advanced degree is usually master's and up in most definitions I've seen.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Wondering the same myself. I assume Bachelor's but we all know assuming makes an ASS of U and ME

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 week ago

in their right mind

First we'll have to discuss this bar you've put on them. I know a lot of people who believed it but I'm not sure I have a strong case to defend their mind.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Anyone who listened to Trump and Vance explain them basically. For months they've been straight up lying to their voters that if they put a tariff on China, then China would have to pay to ship their products to the US. How they're going to bring in all this money from China and the rest of the countries that had been supposedly "screwing us" in trade.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

And all those tarrifs are to even trade out. But also to allow us to eliminate the income tax! Just don't ask about how we're going to make up for all of the money taxes bring in, or any of it once trade evens out and we don't need the tariffs anymore.

It all makes perfect sense, you see. /s

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

their right mind

Those on the political right

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

They're not thinking. They're feeling. It's a world of emotions.

All of us do that sometimes. Unfortunately, some people do it when stakes are high like elections, rather than fairly harmless emotional choices like "I want the 1d12 sword instead of 2d6 because the 12 feels bigger"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Does matter either way. You make China pay for the tariff, they just add the tariff to the sale of the product.

The item is $100 and there is a $100 tariff? Well, now they selling it at $200.

Doesn't matter who the bill goes to, the consumer always end up footing the bill. The only winner is the US government (whose money will quickly find its way into some rich people's pockets)

[–] [email protected] 73 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They should be branding them Republican Tariff Charges.

They don't waste and opportunity to pin nicknames things they are trying to demonize like it's a slur.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why not just attach Trump's name directly? Adding his name to (terrible) things is practically his hobby.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago

Call it the Trump Tax. That's what my friend changed "Tariffs Contingency Fee" to on all his proposals.

If someone threatens you, you can always fall back on "it's the Trump Tax and it'll make us STRONGER!"

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

You can't let the rest of his enablers get away with washing their hands of it

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Trump is just upping the VAT.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What vat? The vat the us somehow doesnt know how to apply or declare on international packages so i always ending up paying vat twice? Oh that vat.
Ye, let them.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How do you pay it twice, if the US doesn't apply a vat?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pay sales tax on purchase and then again on import to border control because they believe vat wasnt paid yet because it wasnt declared right

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It wasn't declared as vat because usa doesn't have vat, only sales tax. Sales tax is similar to vat, but not the same, so declaring sales tax as vat would be fraud.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Yes, but also no. Friend of mine works in the business of import and export declarations and he says there are forms and checkboxes that need to be ticked to not have this happen. Yes sales tax is not vat, but when declaration of import happens there are methods/procedures to have them be compatible

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Crazy to think the proposition to make america the greatest is just to tax the shit out of americans

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is!

But which Americans to tax the most?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Obviously the once with nothing left, so that those with more than they know how to spend can fill their vaults higher.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Its to supports good American union jobs according to Trump. Which was how tariffs were sold the last time as well. It went pretty stupidly as expected.
