Resist: It's Time

We are still in this together, but "this" is going to be real different in the very near future. This demands a different kind of "we."

The French Resistance during Nazi occupation played important roles delivering downed Allied airmen back to safety, supplying military intelligence, and acts of sabotage.

The Underground Railroad is estimated to have brought 100,000 freedom seekers to safety between 1810 and 1850.

It's time.

Holy smokes, it's totally wild that this is happening at all. We're seeing people actually go out en masse and directly interfering with ICE. That's huge. I love to see it.

Next step is to show up armed

Yeah, peaceful resistance will probably be handled a bit differently by the cops if everyone in the crowd has a shotgun over their shoulder. Without even brandishing or using them, just knowing that they're there changes the equation a lot. Reminds me of that part of Winter on Fire (a documentary on the 2014 Maidan protests) when the protestors have had enough and declare that they're going to march on the capitol building as armed protestors, and the president can choose to be there or not. After months of shooting and killing unarmed protestors, the cops fucking bailed immediately.

There's a reason they're using 6-12 officers to arrest one middle-aged mother. They know the communities they enter hate them and they are terrified of bystanders ganging up on them or worse, ambushing them with firearms.

I don't think there is a "peaceful show of force" in this scenario. The second a cop sees a civilian carrying a long arm walking up to them, pistols are leaving their holsters and they'll start screaming commands just like they're trained. The first shot fired is inevitable from there.

There's also a reason they haven't gone after actual gang members that might be armed. They're arresting the people that show up to their immigration appointments and have diligently updated their address whenever they moved.

The first time I had a gun pulled on me (heh first time gj America) was a cop while was playing with a laser pointer in a church parking lot. I was like 13.

Cops are fucking coward/bully ( same thing i know ) that why protest need to crank up the fear factor if they dont fear the fascist will continu there is no peaceful solution to this america is at war with himself but only the axis of evil is fighting for now

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago

Right wing ideologies inherently depend on fear.

They are all cowards who will crumple under the first signs of resistance.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

Yep present warrants or gtfo

"bUt tHaT wiLL mAkE tRuMp dEcLaRe MaRtIal Law!!"

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 days ago

Yeah New England is at least a small pocket of sanity for now

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I can't wait until ICE agents start seeing how some of us with guns defend ourselves.

[–] [email protected] 58 points 2 days ago (7 children)

A) ICE had to call the local PD to bail them out. That's significant, as it shows the government doesn't have the manpower to maintain their terror campaign without local support.

B) The City Manager's statement doesn't seem to condemn the crowd at all. The statement (or at least what's quoted) only criticizes ICE. Given that about 25 citizens were ready to throw hands at federal agents, that feels huge.

C) Worcester has a statue of a guy fucking a turtle in the center of town. Not relevant to the story, but I have to bring it up whenever Worcester is in the news. I hope you enjoy it (though the turtle clearly didn't).

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 days ago

A1) Let it be known and not forgotten that Worcester Police are collaborators.

B1) The dichotomy of the political leadership condemning ICE and the police backing them up is noted.

B2) I expect there to be a concerted but quiet effort from federal law enforcement to identify and target the crowd members regardless of how the locals feel.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Turtle rape as a tasteful statue was not on my expected things to encounter today, but somehow I am glad I did.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Its one of the least distateful things I've seen reading about politics today.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Worcester is a weirdly fascinating city

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Too bad I will not see it. It seems like it was a zany place.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

you dont know, the turtle could be a freak

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The police protecting the ICE thugs and targeting the good samaritans should result in every single one of them facing the same Nuremberg style trials as the I E gestapo.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That might be the turtle's pleasure face. We dont know. Could be the best day of that turtles life. Any turtle bestiality experts here that can help us out?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago

Guy: I love you, turtle!

Turtle:

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

The Wikipedia article is bonkers.

Harvey began to hear voices coming from the unfinished statue commanding him to take his own life.

Bonkers.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

A) Fucking kill them.

[–] [email protected] 112 points 2 days ago (1 children)

At some point they risk re-enacting that scene with the little girl in "V for Vendetta" where the people have finally had enough with the brownshirts and swarm them. As they deserve IMO.

[–] [email protected] 74 points 2 days ago (2 children)

this will keep escalating….
also i’m thinking that’s probably why they’re moving national guard into cities and all that…

[–] [email protected] 40 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think that was the goal. To justify emergency powers enactment. Then delay election. Etc etc.

All classic ways of a coup unfolding.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago

i wish this was still just crazy conspiracy talk, and not perfectly plausible conspiracy observations…

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Whose says they're moving the Guard into cities? I know Trump is angling to give them more power.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

They just did this in Albuquerque. 71 Guard soldiers are there to "assist" police - ostensibly, they're simply there to "free up" police from the mundanity of things like traffic accidents, wellness checks, etc, so they can "focus on crime".

Overtly, this is slow-rolling the idea of using armed forces to occupy cities on home soil.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

unknown liquid... sounds so sinister doesnt it. Bitch cops love to make press releases to steer public opinion with absolute contrived nonsense. It'll be water or soda. It always comes out that they were exagerating and lying to help their contrived self serving fantasy story.

[–] [email protected] 58 points 2 days ago

They stopped heroic bystanders who saw a crime in progress and actually did something to stop it.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 days ago

So I watched a video of it and as soon as the "police department" (as in not ICE) showed up and said to disperse cuz this is an unlawful protest, everyone stopped blocking the ICE vehicle. yt link - nypost - aprox 10 min no commentary

IDK How I'd react in this situation so I'm not critical of the human reactions here ,but wtf, unlawful protest!! What a weak threat! Is speaking out and fighting against fascist unlawful action happening RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU an unlawful protest? No. Would I be brave enough to face the bullshit consequences? Probably not, if I'm being honest with myself. But we need to recognize when the threats are also unlawful bullshit at least, right?

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fuck the Nazi SS and any foreign trash animal that works for them. These are not humans.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why are foreigners "trash animals?" 🤔

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago

Because they work with the Nazi SS?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Not at all what I said, or remotely in context of the allegory.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It may not have been what you intended, but it's what I received as well.
You may want to clarify your intent, is all.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

Yeah I'm struggling to understand why the word "foreign" is in that sentence at all.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I don't get why foreign is in there either lol

But fuck Nazis, that's for sure.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

not patriotic; not of the culture; targeting the exact motivation of these halfwits in a word. It has nothing to do with simple literal meaning; none of it does

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago

ICE will get someone killed. Either they pull the trigger or someone actually uses the 2nd amendment.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago

Arm Yourselves tyranny is here.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if the police actually cared they'd drop the charges against the members of the crowd

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If the police actually cared they would have joined the crowd.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Arguably, ICE was engaging in kidnapping with the intent to violate someone's Fifth Amendment rights. They should have intervened against ICE.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

Its also human trafficking
