McGinn told local media he did it to show there were normal people in parliament

..as he's leaving parliament

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Drinking beer from a shoe is normal now?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago (3 children)

You never drank Bailey's from a shoe?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Want to go to a club where people wee on each other?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Do you love me?

Could you learn to love me?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

No, but I hear it goes well with a nice Chianti.

The lady beside him seems like she should be chanting "Her-cules! Her-cules!"

That's fucking digusting, who thought drinking beer from a shoe was cool??

[–] [email protected] 49 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Aussies. And you'll do it with them, if you're ever lucky enough to be near their a celebrations

I know from Daniel Ricciardo popularized it in Formula 1

[–] [email protected] 41 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Id rather drink a fosters than beer out of a shoe

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago

I'd rather drink my own fermented piss than drink a fucking fosters.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago

That's both Australian and I Australian at the same time. Well done. You've broken Aussie stereotypes forever. A real "yeah, nah"

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago

Just a whole country of old Greg’s.

Less disgusting than allowing children to be slaughtered so that feeble excuses for men can own firearms to compensate for their inadequacies

Less disgusting than the genocide in Palestine

Less disgusting than Uighurs being used for slave labour because of their religion

There are many disgusting things in the world, this is light-hearted fun

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I get that you're upset about these things, but they don't really have anything to do with this post.

Even the comment you're replying to is asserting a different kind of disgusting.

[–] FistingEnthusiast 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I'm Australian, and people often seize the shoey as a way of telling me that we're all uncivilised filth

It's a sore spot, especially when it's just a laugh

I've never actually done a shoey

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

I get that you dislike the stereotype, but it still doesn't have anything to do with the issues you listed.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To be fair, the Aussies that are doing shoeys are uncivilised filth. Ive also done a ton of shoeys and they are disgusting, you can taste the shoe.

[–] FistingEnthusiast 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't want to soak my shoes and have to keep wearing them, I buy good shoes and don't want to ruin them, and I sure as shit wouldn't do one from my work boots

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Its funny when you're young, drunk and stupid. Turns out its actually pretty dangerous since shoes have a lot of bacteria that you shouldnt be drinking.

[–] FistingEnthusiast 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh, it definitely isn't on my to-do list, but it's not the worst thing in the world

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I guess you're right about that, FistingEnthusiast

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

Those all sound like great past times, but I draw the line at drinking out of a shoe

and yesIt's a fucking joke

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Ah yes, the two choices: drinking beer from a shoe or committing genocide.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Sir, this is a discussion about drinking beer from a shoe.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've done didgeridooie

We found a prosthetic leg in the park and my mate did a legie from it

I've seen blokes do them through raw fresh fish too

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

That last one just sounds awful for the fish

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Does this hurt the fishie?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

According to Nirvana they don't have any feelings

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

From what I know it's mostly something you do as the loser of a bet.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not about being cool. It was a statement.

Old Greg want supposed to be instructional.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

What's his crime? Drinking a succulent beverage??

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago

That's amazing. Good for him!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Unless you are a feet fetish sub, I can’t think of another reason to like this drinking style

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago
[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah... Nah...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Its a big thing in the whitewater community in the US as well

[–] fitjazz 1 points 1 month ago

Nothing quite like a booty beer after a swim.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Australia expects us to respect them as a nation and then they pull this shit

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

And may I ask which oh-so-respectable nation you're from?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

You're cringe

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

If you're that close to disrespecting them as a nation on the world order for having some unique tradition you don't share, you never really respected their culture and were waiting for a chance for it to be excusable

There are two very different types of respect; respect for a person as a human being, and respect for a person as an authority. But because we use the same word for these two different things, people often talk as if they were the same thing. So for example, when someone in authority says “If you don’t respect me, I won’t respect you.” What they’re actually saying (and justifying) is “If you don’t respect me as an authority, I won’t respect you as a human being.”
